Hekske (the little witch) and Falke (the 10-year-old witch apprentice) had been flying for a long time in Southeastern direction, until they saw the white peaks of the Alps in the distance. The girls were very excited to visit these majestic mountains once again, and it was the first time they saw them in summertime.  Soon they passed over several big lakes at the foot of the Alps, before heading into a broad valley which became narrower and narrower. They flew higher and higher over an endless forest with fresh green larch trees, while the snow-capped peaks came closer and closer. Finally, the vegetation got sparser until they reached the tree line, where they saw a young witch waving in the distance. Hekske and Falke touched down gently and got a warm welcome hug from the Alpine witch, who showed them the way to a little lake. They rested near the lake in a lush green meadow full of colorful flowers with butterflies hopping from flower to flower. In the crystal clear water they saw the reflection of the towering mountains, while a golden eagle was lazily soaring under the blue sky. This was easily the most idyllic place the witches had ever seen.
Yet this was not the final destination of their journey. The Swiss witch led them over a narrow path higher into the mountains. They followed a wild river which was surrounded by big boulders. Finally they reached the toe of a glacier, where the river popped up from underneath the ice. As they came closer, they saw there was an entrance of a tunnel in the ice. The Swiss witch led them into the tunnel, while they listened to the pleasant sound of the water. The tunnel got very narrow and dark, but then they saw a faint light in the distance. They entered a big ice chamber with a light blue dome-shaped ceiling. In the middle of the chamber was a pond with crystal clear water. The witches looked at each other and smiled. They knew what to do. They shucked off their immaculately white dresses and waded slowly into the water. This was easily the coldest water Hekske had ever felt, but it was so pure and pleasant. The 3 witches floated lazily on the water looking at the ceiling, where they could see how the sunrays got transformed in all colors of the rainbow. This place was so perfectly peaceful … the true beating heart of the glacier
