Where multidisciplinary NYC artist Taja Cheek aka L’Rain interrupts the oneiric avant-soul of her second LP Fatigue with the blaring of police sirens and air horns, her exclusive Bleep mix feels like more of an amniotic refuge. The glassy ambience of Galcher Lustwerk weaves into the low key jazz psychedelia of Pino Palladino, Blake Mills and Sam Gendal, later breezing into the synthesised topiary of Pauline Anna Strom. Phonic Mirror # 11 is called Love is Lovely War Is Ugly. It's a new mix of music from the '80s and '90s: These tunes span digital reggae exploration, midi-mayhem, dancehall b-side digital delay versions, and soul-phasing creative covers. For the past seven years, I've collected 45s and records from the Caribbean and the cities folks migrated to. I've had boxes and boxes of LPs and 45s disorganized for a while and recently had a moment to sit and listen more. It's been hard to separate the ones I don't want; for every song I might not like, the B-side version sheds light on a creative take on the A-side. Play this loud, and make sure you have bass.

Having the opportunity to remix one of Max’s tracks from his latest album was a real honour. The attention to detail and the warmth he brings to his productions are something that we’ve always aspired towards. We decided to work with Lovesong as we connected with the track’s reflective nature, the beautiful warmth and space the main prophet part brings to the track.  The hardest thing with the remix was to not overcomplicate or distract from this main synth. We really wanted to add live drums to keep it warm and organic, but then bring the electronic elements together for added depth and texture. We also worked on some simple warped piano and glock counter melodies to bridge the gap between the acoustic and electronic sounds.
