French Holiday Concert St. Louis Cathedral

Helen Gillet and Mirande got together in India on the auspicious day of Holi... with Helen showing Mirande how she uses the loop pedal with Cello and Mirande bringing in the Hindustani vocals and improvisations, they had their own little celebration, musically. Happy Holi to all u wonderful people!

On April 24th 2016 - Brian and I decided to play a duo concert house party in my living room.  We had done this duet before in the fall of 2015 and we pretty excited to bring the house concert vibe back to Jazz Fest 2016 so I threw a house party!    But our duo attracted others... Nikki Glaspie showed up and I set up my drum set, it was the "B" drum SONOR kit from Piety Studios (that Mark Bingham sold to me before Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes bought the place).  Jessica Lurie showed up and it became clear that a mysteriously spectacular quartet was about to materialize.  Brian played my late great microbiologist grandmother Helen's baby grand piano, and melodica.  I had my "piccolo Bass" Cello set up and loop pedal. This is the result - 35 minute set in front of a 25 person audience in my living room.  The after party went well ingot he night and we all vowed to make this music live on and do it again and again!  Stay tuned...

I wrote this song after being inspired by the Belgian country side post-industrial sculpture garden by Julos Beaucarne.  "Pagodes" is the french word for pagodas.  In this garden there are lots of pagodas built out of high tension cable spools without any nails or screws.   I climbed up to the top of the largest pagoda with Julos and felt light and hopeful about living far away from my home country of Belgium and my childhood home of Singapore.  I brought that feeling back to New Orleans and wrote this song.  My french band WAZOZO consisted at the time of this recording (2009) of Luke Brechtelsbauer on harp, Daron Douglas on violin and Gregory Good on guitar.   Hope you enjoy.
