"It’s time to talk about what happened. 

It’s the experience that shaped me and that broke me. That taught me and still teaches me. And the foundation I build on. 

Before I started this conversation I thought I was completely alone. Talking has proved me wrong. I’m amazed and grateful for all the support on this journey thus far. Healing ain’t easy. Thanks for listening. 

When I was 3 years old my dad began showing symptoms of dementia. When I was 8 he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He suffered from hallucinations and delusions when I was 9. He forgot my name when I was 12. He moved into a home when I turned 14. He forgot why when I was 15. He was in a wheelchair by the time I was 17. And died just before my 19th birthday. That’s the basic timeline. Fifteen very long years. 

And that shit was terrible. 

It’s at the front of my mind every single day. It's time to let it out.

Using his looper pedal and a wide arrange of guitar effects, Byron creates broad sonic soundscapes drenched in crisp reverb and pulsing rhythms. Mixing these sounds together with his uplifting and inspiring lyrical content creates a truly unique brand of music that is truly unique. Drawing from 13 years of guitar experience of playing Indie rock, R&B, rap and finger style guitar, Byron Mayhew is an artist you won’t want to miss.

Canterbury Bells is a burgeoning indie-folk band consisting of Sean Emmett Thompson, Ryan Ehresman ('59), Ezra Teshome and Liam McKay (Moving Van).  The quartet of compulsive songwriters blend classic folk sensibility with modern immediacy to create a sound that is entirely their own. The band draws inspiration from the raw beauty of nature, from the humbling experience of a redwood forest to the bliss of floating in a still lake. They are based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Canterbury Bells - September 2023

Helen St. MixR 7th Season featuring Camellia Boutros

Taking to the stage with a one-of-a-kind 12-string fretless electric guitar, Camellia Boutros and her band bring a wild and new blend of psychedelic rock, Arab folk, improvisation, and lyrical story-telling with them wherever they go. A multi-instrumentalist and producer with years of experience in the Bay Area music scene, she assembled the best to perform compositions that draw on her experience growing up between the West Coast and the Arab world. Her band features a kit drummer, bassist, saxophonist, and occasionally synthesizer, opening the songs up to a wide variety of sonic expression, all of which can be heard on her first solo album, Refuge.

With influences ranging from Billy Strayhorn to D'angelo, Oddity can be found wherever inspiration strikes - be it a tender touch on a warm rhodes, a heavy dilla-style backbeat, or a bluesy trombone melody. 

Oddity’s story is one of resiliency and rebirth, of toeing the precipice of the abyss and returning with an open heart and a present mind. Her music is at once an affirmation of life, a tear-streaked lament, a desperate call to action. Join Oddity as she discovers beauty and cultivates peace by centering love, against all odds.
