Progressive Breaks Mix 11/13

It's time for another chapter in the ESR history, this time in-form of a one producer remix album where past productions on the label is getting a re-take. We are happy to see one of the best producers out there when it comes to progressive breaks, is taking on the challenge. ”Revisions” is a collection on some of the best from all across the globe.

Rick Tedesco is your guide and host of this journey, where he gives a new treat to 8 past headliners on the ESR roster.

Rick, based in Texas, US, has played a major part of the label for the past 6 months or so and really doesn't need an introduction. But of course for new followers of the label, we can tell you he's been a stellar figure on the scene for some years with his breaks productions, and we are truly happy to have him among us.

First up is on a track, first released back in November 2011, and after that being re-released with new remixes several time on the label. Here he as you understand brings on a full n bloom breaks rendition on this classic ESR signing, originally coming from label boss Arctic Night & Sergey Post, including Mix'Usha with her beautiful vocal effort.

The 2nd remake from the Texas bound producer comes on the original track from Dayon called Transpic. For those of you remembering this beauty, released back in mid-April last year, know it already then included some superb melodic lines built by Gasty Gagliardo, the producer behind the Dayon alias. Rick gives this beauty a real treat here, and his drum programming fits the melodies perfectly. Another gem has landed.

3rd up on the ”Revisions” release is a superb original from Suleyman Yay?c?, more known under his alias Givor Paradis. The Turkish producer where originally among us back in late October 2013 with his release called ”Dream”. Rick is using all his talent for drums yet again here, to give the track a new dimension with his funky and crisp style of breaks, it's pure mint coming up.


Moving ahead half way in to the fine selection of tunes here, Rick Tedesco now has made a new interpretation for Mathie Delois and his production ”Storm”, released by the early European summer back in late may last year. Originally then Mathie came up with 3 different mixes of the track, and now Rick is giving it a massive re-take, with dirty and twisted bass sound along with the bouncing drumming parts, awesome stuff is ready for ya!

From August 2013 we go back and find the release in our back catalogue ESR133, you all probably remember that Rick has re-worked the superb vocal production made by the Russian producer Pavel Kuzmenko, more known through his Paul Key moniker, and here his trance alias Outsense. ”I'm Coming” is as you probably a great original production where Mr. Tedesco now spiced everything up with some lovely melodic work, of course you will have it in the breaks style as well!

Moving ahead, to the 6th production getting a new treat here, and this one comes from a collaboration made by Rinth & Rafal Sentiel, called ”One Step Closer”. This was originally released by us at ESR back in October 2012, and by that time got the remixes from Franzis-D and Ramine. Rick put on his genuine progressive breaks touch here, still using the original idea of the track, to push it in the right direction.

Moving ahead, and almost at the finish line for this time, we now get a closer look at the re-work made on The Distance – Ottawa Nights, a track published the last European summer on our highly rated collection back then. This was the stand out production from that release, and we had Rick making a superb, warm interpretation out of it. We couldn't be happier than what we are with the result, it's top notch work!

The final edit is for a production made by Ruben Nunez aka Trukers, a stellar name on our roster, and his quality production ”Syneidesis”. This melodic beauty comes with a rough and dirty drum programming and has given it quite a raw feel. That together with the original uplifting melodic hooks makes it a great rounding of for this release that we now are ready to leave in your hands!

I had the absolute pleasure to play on a brand new and incredible sound camp at this years Underland called ‘The Abyss’. A stage which connected some incredibly techincal and talented lighting and audio geniuses together to bring an amazing space to the paddock this year.

This is my set from 12PM Saturday night - a perfect example of when everything goes right, the sound was on point, the atmosphere was electric and the crowd of beautiful burners kept the energy turned up to the highest. Giant gusts of wind blew into the tent to bring an epic feel to each build and the drops were followed by hoots and howls with everyone stomping their feet in unison. It was an absolute pleasure!

This set spans 62 tracks - months of playlisting and a few last minute editions. It also features a little bit of MIDI based scratching (which is an experiment I’ve been working on). I had a lot of fun revisiting some tracks I loved in the past and giving them a new perspective in this mix.

Its VERY high energy, with no limits - it's 100% full on, peak power, driving and heavy DF at maximum volume. Unbuckle your seatbelts and get ready to groove!

Drop Frame - Underland 2024 (The Abyss)

I'd never played in the dome before but have heard so much great music there and it holds a unique place in Australian Burning Man culture....so I was pretty nervous especially leading up to midnight on burn night! It was great to play with Chaux and Emma who I spent so much time building the Wonky Queenslander community with. Thanks to Chaux and Ali for the opportunity and Finn, Nick and Benji for turning off Coco so that everyone walked in just at the right time. It was special to see so many faces I love smiling and dancing. There's some favourite tracks from previous Wonky parties in Meanjin/Brisbane, some stuff I've gleaned from Syncity sets in the past and some great new stuff.

Wonky Queenslander Burn Night @The Dome Underland 2024

Following an uproarious Cocolympics in the paddock, Coco Poco Loco's party continued in to the evening with the Effigy burning and wind ravaging. After the burn and some on-point sets, as cocktails flowed from the Coco bar, this was the closing set from around 9-10:30pm. Vibes were high. Legends were in abundance. Joy and dancing reigned. <3

Underland 2024 - Coco Poco Loco - Burn Night

I had the absolute honour to close our legendary dome on Sunday night, last night of Underland our Vic Burn. 

The dome was heaving, so many familiar faces on the dance floor and on the bar. It was a dream set having the pleasure to close our space at the end of an amazing week in Paradise. 

A lot of the tracks I ended up playing were direct response to the dome's vibe that night, I had a different plan for this closing set but the crowd and the dome dictated the vibe and energy at the end. 

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

SynCity Dome - Sunday Closing Set - Underland 2024

I'm dedicating this set to the city of Melbourne in sincere gratitude for the opportunities she's giving me. Since I hit the ground here three months ago everything has been going amazingly well. This place and I, we resonate; I feel that we have good things to offer each other... quite a change from a year ago, when I was really struggling.

A consequence of this positive attitude right now is that I've been listening to a lot of more positive, uplifting tunes that can reflect my Self back to me. Thing is, most electronica is written in minor keys, and a lot of breakbeat is of the deliciously dark, heavy, and often brooding variety. While I genuinely like that stuff, it's actually quite hard to find moving and energetic progressive breaks that make me feel lifted.

Still, there are definitely a lot of good breaks tracks out there which are very uplifting, encouraging and outrospective. I've done my best with this set to bring this positive breed of progressive breaks together in a way that lifts you and sends you flying out into the world with a forward-looking smile on your face.

Think about it: You are on a 7 billion year old rock floating through space at 30,000 metres per second. The atoms that make up your body were born within stars, of which there are 200 billion in our average-sized galaxy. You are the result of four billion years of selective evolution, and you have the capacity to feel, to think, to learn and evolve.

You are wired for experience and social interaction. That experience and interaction includes music and dance... Your evolution through the universe has brought you into being, here and now, and this is a part of your experience.
