There must be something in the water in Northern Norway as it’s keeps producing wonderfully leftfield electronic music. MAde is the latest to add to a rich lineage and his new EP comes with some heavyweight remixes that will leave DJs scratching their heads, wondering which mix to play.

Gjer Inkort is a no nonsense, heads down, peak time banger that puts it’s foot to the floor and doesn’t let up. Jacking drums, nagging synths and a driving bass bring the heat. 

Making his first appearance on Paper, Jimpster shows why he’s one of the the world’s most respected house producers. Tight beats, wonky synths, rolling NRG bass,and immaculate production, there’s not a floor this won’t rock.

Offentlig Salærsats takes things down a notch to low-slung smokers territory. Deep, soulful and trippy, fans of Kruder & Dorfmeister and Nightmares one Wax will be all over it. 

Finally, nne of Oslo’s hottest emerging DJ and producers, Henrik Villard ramps up the tempo but keeps it on the deep side of house and techno. But make no mistake, this is a main room slammer destined for DJ’s digital boxes across the musical spectrum.

Kicking things off for 2024 on Lava Lava is London-based producer Raj Panasa a.k.a. Bearface with an ode to the creative freedom of Jazz. Previous releases on Defected, Vatos Locos, Exploited and his own Beartone Records have shown his depth of skill and musicality in weaving together analogue instrumentation with digital equipment and sampling. His Harlesden Shuffle EP combines the warmth of old school Jazz records unearthed in dusty crates with the energy and flow of contemporary Deep House to make the perfect record for candle-lit bars and free & easy dance floors.

Title track Harlesden Shuffle opens up with driving 4/4 drum patterns, sub-heavy bass and a tripped out vocal sample. A hypnotic trumpet loops lead through to an absolutely sublime rhythm section. As the trumpet becomes faster and looser so does the 808-style hand claps, creating an irresistible head-nodding and body-moving track.

On the B Side, French Orkestra is a rich and Deep tapestry where warm bass and soft trumpets bounce alongside shuffling percussion. As the track develops playful piano licks, joyful clarinets and beautiful flute sections weave throughout. Looped and warped vocals add the final layer to this cut, contrasting more modern digital production methods with stunning instrumentation.

Hell Yeah kicks off 2024 in fine style with a new album from Australian producer @dawn-again . Every Dog's Hotel is a dreamy and breaks-driven downtempo excursion the artist has dubbed "pubwave."

Melbourne-based Nick Verwey has been crafting solo and collaborative cuts for the best part of a decade on labels like Houseworx and Enjoyment Division. He operates in a world where danceable grooves are paired with laid-back moods. His lo-fi sound is both sunlit and sunset-ready and is for grown-up crowds who like to get down on rooftops, sandy enclaves, or laidback living rooms. This new album, however, he describes as "pubwave" and was conveyed during lockdown when Nick and his friends were missing their favourite communal drinking spots.

"My friends and I were missing the pub, missing dance floors, missing being able to hang out and have fun," he says before explaining that, at the time, he was listening to a lot of 90s and 00s downtempo chill out by the likes of Heights of Abraham, Pork Recordings, Baby Mammoth and Bullitnuts. He came up with the idea of creating something similar but in his own way, initially with spoken word poetry from his friend over the top, though when it came to recording that never quite worked so it was shelved until later when Nick tried again without the vocals. "The whole project has been more than years in the making. I'm super proud of the end result. I think it still nails the dreamy, Balearic "pubwave" vibe and comes with a gorgeous cover painting by my mate Holly Hunt. It's an old English haunt called the Old Neptune, and what nails the brief more than a pub that is literally on the beach?"

The title track is a welcome opening with leggy breaks and soft shakers encouraging you to sway while gazing up at the melodic stars before 'Foam Party' gets more zoned out with its vaporous chords and gentle drum tumbles. 'Journey Through The Schoonerverse' is a suspensory trip to the clouds with effortlessly loose breaks and painterly synth smears, 'Wonky Friends' has a more weighty but still dubbed out and slow motion house kick and 'Kneverending Knockoffs' keeps the energy rising with raw percussion and acidic twitches that journey through a heat haze on a warm afternoon. Closer 'Backyard Paradiso' is the horizontal finish that washes over you like rays of sun and gently breaking waves to leave you relaxed from head to toe and digital bonus 'Hard Earned Thirst' is an extra chance to luxuriate in Dawn Again's richly layered synths and leisurely breaks.

The superbly welcoming Every Dog's Hotel is a place to pull up, sink a drink, and soak into some lavish and escapist downtempo sounds.

No stranger to Fortunea Records, having already been featured in two editions of the Fortunea Cookies VA-Series, she is set to present her first 4-track EP in February.

The 'Conversations with Birds' EP is a meticulously balanced collection of tracks designed for each phase of a club night.

Drawing inspiration from elements of 90s House and progressive sounds, 'Visual Mind' and 'In Sight' are dreamlike journeys with lively synth melodies, joyful basslines, and captivating pads and textures. The latter has also been reworked by Fortunea regular Peletronic, infusing crisp minimalistic rhythms into his 'Blurred Vision' Mix.

The standout piece of the EP is the title track on the B-side, a beautiful composition that elicits uplifting moments and feelings of euphoria. It features emotive chords, airy strings, and soothing sustained tones that enhance the powerful groove.

The record promises to immerse listeners in an engaging journey that captures Dzc.'s distinctive vision.

'Conversations with Birds' will be digitally released on February 22, followed shortly by a limited vinyl edition.
