Another live recording from a cool little bar in the middle of Sydney's CBD which seems to get a more than fair few Sydney dj's turning up for impromptu sets. This week, it was my turn to lay down some nice, early evening, very chilled deep house grooves.....

With its 10th edition, Dalmata Daniel’s split series brings together two artists who have both left their mark on the label’s compilations, now presenting their first full releases on the imprint. Anatolian Weapons and The Spy approach electronic music from different angles, one rooted in hypnotic techno rituals, the other in raw electro and post-punk energy. Both craft sounds that thrive in the shadows of the dancefloor. On the A-side, Anatolian Weapons delivers three cold, hypnotic cuts. "Trapped" opens with heavy EBM percussion and a buzzkill bassline, setting a tense, mechanical tone. "Further Spiralling Down" sinks deeper into darkness with a grinding low end, tight drums, and electro-tinged claps, forming the side’s relentless highlight. "Apathy Through Shock" closes with pounding, catatonic rhythms and a mournful, otherworldly melody, pushing the listener into disorienting depths. Flipping over, The Spy’s raw, electro-driven energy takes hold. "Same Blur" channels sharp electro beats with a punkish sneer and cosmic synth lines. "Falling", featuring The Spy’s own vocals, leans into melancholic new wave, pairing bouncy rhythms with bittersweet melodies. The closing "Pretending" drifts into the darkest corners, offering low-slung, haunted electro layered with distant, spectral harmonies.

With a finely tuned ear for rave-ready energy and soul-soothing melodies, Manchester duo Cortese continue a run of fine form. Following standout releases on LNOE and Hotflush, they make their long-awaited debut on Constant Circles with the Parallels EP - an essential slice of forward thinking UKG.

Two original cuts lead the way, showcasing Cortese’s signature blend of nostalgic garage vibes and cutting-edge production. These are closely followed by two standout remixes: label boss Just Her delivers a deep and driving rework, while Jozef K, known for his immersive sonic textures, delivers a haunting atmospheric twist, each bringing a new flavour to appease any dance floor.

On “Illusion of Grandeur” Soul Clap’s Charles Levine brings us a cinematic production, evoking the score of a French new wave film from the 1970s with added modern house flair. This piece of music was originally recorded in Ibiza with a spoken word vocal contribution from French “renaissance woman” Carlie C. Carlie is many things, a fashionista, a former lead dancer at some of the biggest events on the island of Ibiza and now an emerging DJ and producer with recent releases within the SCR exclusive music series on Bandcamp. On this new record Carlie’s big personality and unmistakable voice sets a mood guaranteed to entrance and hypnotize!
