OUR man Quantec is nothing if not versatile. An aficionado of many styles including ambient, deep house, Detroit, dub, dubby electronics, experimental and roots reggae, he can turn his hand adeptly across the musical palette. For this his latest release on Neighbour Recordings it’s all about the ‘D’; deep ambient, drone and dub techno that’s dope with a capital ‘D’. Not for nothing is his album titled Journey of Mind. It’s a personal and self-assured trip from first note to last – not surprising for a producer with almost 25 years in the game – drifting as it does through contemplative sonic worlds and ethereal soundscapes. And while the label co-owner’s handiwork here is from the ‘less is more’ school of production, it’s nonetheless big on atmosphere with an undercurrent of drama or melody never too far away. Notable destinations on this journey include Depth of Immersion, Mind Wandering, Motionless and Perfect Stranger. Bon voyage.

Neighbour Recordings has decided to reissue this enthralling ambient dub masterpiece from Quantec and we're here for it. Journey Of Mind delves into the depths of electromagnetism and showcases Quantec's deeper side in cuts like 'Depth Of Immersion', 'Atmospheric Noise', and 'The Unknown'. Each track serves as a potent tool for self-introspection, with standout pieces like 'The Mystic Moon' offering a visceral journey through the mind's deepest and darkest corners. As such this album, with its pulsating rhythms and ethereal atmospheres, is one that proves the perfect soundtrack with which to explore the uncharted realms of consciousness and perception.

The pandemic, a few years ago, brought a lot of misery but also an eruption of creativity on Soundcloud in the genre I’m most interested in, electronic music. A lot of the artists were completely new to me. One of the biggest discoveries was a Swedish producer called Martin Jarl. To me he really stood out because of the warmth and emotional depth of his tracks, very rare in electronic music because, well, the music is after all electronic. I expected it would take Martin - who turned out to be a really nice guy by the way - not too long to find a large audience. But nothing in the music business is easy these days, no matter how talented you are. Stlll, I think Martin Jarl should be a household name. Judge for yourself.
