hello strange story #4 [ HSL #28 ]

I think part of being mature is truly feeling the flow of time and realizing how short and fragile life can be. When you see people around you die, or get ill, or even when you yourself are attacked – like when strangers shot rockets at you – it makes you question your own beliefs but also be grateful for what you have.

This serves as a reminder for myself to be bold, brave, and strong. It's a call not to waste time and to cherish what life has to offer.

For almost two decades, I have been tirelessly seeking honesty in music. I aim to find the sounds with which the artist speaks. Soundscapes that make you feel. Atmospheres that not only fill your room (and headphones) but truly transport you into another time and place. I will never forget the first time I heard Abul Mogard’s music. I was mesmerised. His intricate attention to sound design, rich textures, and manipulation of the created environment instantly transformed me into an avid fan. His music didn’t just augment my mood; it seemed to seep into my being, altering the code behind the perception of my mind. I didn’t just listen to his music, I invited it to be a part of my condition. In an effort to delve deeper and spend more time with such music, and more importantly, the composers themselves,  I created Headphone Community, where I feature an artist for an in-depth exploration. In the last three months, I’ve highlighted the sounds of James Murray, Ben Chatwin, and Erik K Skodvin. Today, I am honoured to announce that Abul Mogard will be the featured artist for the entire month of June! Cascading Sectors arrives, the 11th installment of the Natural Expressions series, where dub techno's subterranean pulse converges with industrial textures and shimmering ambience. Inspired by the hidden anatomy of nuclear reactor facilities-cooling towers, control rooms, and the silent hum of containment systems-this record explores the friction between technological precision and organic decay.

Across two halves, Cascading Sectors balances warmth and tension. The Dub Side unfurls with deep, gelatinous basslines and drifting delays. 'Spiral' pulses with a hypnotic rhythm, evoking the slow, methodical approach of engines synchronizing as they approach the boarding platform. 'Barycenter' finds equilibrium in echoing chords, while 'Nuclear Fission' fractures rhythms with deep dub stabs. A brief sunlit warmth arrives in 'Sun,' where muted pads and submerged percussion hint at a distant horizon, before 'Sector 5,' where Visitor XIX and legendary producer Mikael Delta weave rhythms and chords into the subterranean grooves.

Flip to the Hard Side, and the machinery seems to rev into overdrive. 'Reflector' drifts through the circuitry like a spectral scan, its metallic hits mapping unseen terrain-each ricochet a signal bending space, collapsing distance. 'Peripheral Vision' conjures surveillance-state unease through echoing textures, and 'Z-Axis' delivers a cathartic finale-a distorted cascade of noise and bass that fades into a white-out.

Recorded with vintage analog delays, tapes, spring reverbs, and modular synthesis, Cascading Sectors captures the analog imperfections at the heart of both human invention and inevitable entropy. Whether you're exploring the control room or wandering the turbine halls in your mind's eye, this album is your passport to an immersive dub techno reactor tour.

The latest @fragilex album brings new meaning to the term “labour of love”. It’s an album that’s been in the works for quite some time. The album is inspired by a long term obsession with fractals and their never ending possibilities.

The original production process on the “Curves and Calculus” album began back in 2018 and in the 7 years since its original inception it has morphed and splintered in many directions to allow all the parts of the puzzle to fall into place.

The finished article is a musical maze, brimming with all manner of corridors and pathways to explore. Pulling in inspirations from every angle of the electronic spectrum and integrating them into a mesmerising journey full of colour, serenity and warmth.

We enter and end the trip in an ambient mood but along the way there’s a nod to the psychedelic aspect that is so often associated with fractals, when we take on a trippier tone as the tracks burst into life through twists of intricate drums and flashes of glowing energy and shifts in motion. Mirroring the boundless nature and expansion of infinity.

All the shapes we experience come lined with effervescent melodies, glitchy sonic backdrops, glassy textures and a constant propulsive motion. Always kinetic, looking for the next move, like the fractal.

“Curves and Calculus” is an audio landscape that is constantly evolving. No real beginning, no real end. A symphony of infinite equations.

Welcome to our podcast, this time we bring you a Great Spanish artist, DJ / Producer based in La Alcarria Spain.

Emesh/AMS is the project of Antonio Muñoz where he unleashes his creativity in the music production of different genres: electronic, ambient, slow trance, idm.

Antonio is both a musician and therapist. His musical influences owe much to the pop and electronics of the 80s when he started working as resident Dj at Deadly club in Brihuega (Guadalajara-Spain) about 9 years. From there he went to Madrid to do Dj sets in various popular nightspots of the capital like the Circulo de Bellas Artes, Mondo and Maxime between others. At the same time he recorded his firsts own tracks and remixes under the name of Dujay. Since then he has consistently been developing his musical interest attending courses and workshops on music production and learning to play many different instruments such as the piano, flute, oriental percussion, tabla, frame drum, congas and guitar. He also has an interest in shamanism and has learned techniques from various ancient cultures to work with sound for therapeutic purposes. Antonio gives regular sound therapy sessions and concerts using his Tibetan Singing Bowls, Shamanic Drum and other ancient instruments. In 2020 one of his tracks has been chosen to enter the program of the London Music Conference and has been invited by the organizers to play a set at the Fabric of London.

The name AMS has several meanings; the initials of Antonio Muñoz Sound, his blog «Armonia del Sonido» and according to the Sefer Yetzirah, the book of creation, AMS «the three mothers, Aleph, Mem and Sin. Great mystery, wonderful and a cult, from where air, water and fire come from, with which all is born.

The EP features 5 ambient compositions: 4 new tracks and 1 remastered track originally recorded in 2009. The title track, Above The Bridge, is built upon a field recording made under a bridge in Wrocław, Poland. However, the crow featured in this track is not the same as the one in the artwork. The latter is a friend of my family, we feed her from time to time when we walk our dog, Kudzi.
