Dub Techno Blog Guest Mix 002 - Mist Soundscapes

We close out this 10-years of Avenue Red mini series with a debut mix from veteran crate digger and deep house & techno specialist, Tomas Bexton from Maidstone in Kent, England. A vinyl-only session. This is mostly comprised of some of our all-time favourite oldskool deep house gems, mixed with utmost smoothness! 10/10.

"I am not a professional DJ or a music producer, you could call me a long-standing vinyl collector of electronic and (mostly) house music since the 1990's. This mix focuses mainly on deep house with a definite nod to a couple of decades back at least.

My aim is to let the records and music do the work, with (hopefully!) a smooth mixing style. I want to feel a sense of peace through the records, maintaining the deep feel throughout. Electronic and minimal influences are of course also thrown in. Honoured to be allocated a podcast slot! I hope people enjoy the mix to round off the 10-year celebrations mini series." Echology:
Echology is a music producer and DJ, specialised in dub techno, ambient, deep techno, downtempo and akin genres. Because of his background as a bass player, Echology tends to favour productions with deep and emphasised basslines and puts major focus on rhythm. Working daily as a musician and sound engineer, Echology tends to experiment with sonics, tonality and rhythm in ways that overcome boundaries. He adapted an old school method of composing, using a mixture of hardware synthesizers and drum machines, guitar pedals, mixing console and DAW. Thus, his performances are never the same and each jam is unique and spontaneous.

Steve Sibra is no newcomer to the French electronic music scene. Active since 1999, he has already released several albums and around forty EPs. 
Originally from Paris but now based in Montpellier in the south of France, Steve is a radio man. For many years, he hosted Laboratoire Sonore on Montpellier 91 FM, where he welcomed the cream of international artists to his show. 

Steve joined the Brique Rouge team in 2022 and, in just a few releases, has risen to become one of the core artists shaping the label's sound. He brings his inimitable touch of melancholic deep techno and melodic, cinematic soft house, sometimes infusing it with a strong electro influence and a few experimental touches. The quality of his productions having won over everyone who listened to them, it was only natural to (finally) offer an album that allows listeners to enter Steve's dancefloor universe.  

And what an album! With 21 tracks, it's more than an adventure, it's a huge sonic trip that draws you in from the very first track and takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, vibrations, and sensations that doesn't let go until the very last track. It's a coherent universe, where every note is weighed for a minimalist approach to a melodious groove. 

Sometimes leaning towards “sunset music,” sometimes towards a slightly darker melancholy, Telepath Voodoo leaves no one indifferent, and each listen brings its own set of details and surprises.  So listen to it loud, listen to it on headphones, listen to it while dancing or meditating, but let yourself be carried away on this long journey that Steve Sibra offers you.  Undoubtedly one of the most important French House and Electronic artists of the moment.

Created in 1999 by David Duriez, the independent French label Brique Rouge continues to promote the electronic sound that David has always believed in and defended. Far from the formatting and excessive vulgarity of the current electronic scene, the label promotes an eclectic electronic sound that remains rooted in the underground and, above all, in a clubbing vibe.  In general, the artists on the team are given carte blanche, and it is above all the spirit that counts. The label does not seek success; it is a success. The success of being able to release music without compromise. With one release per week on platforms since 2020, the label (and its divisions RZ Muzik & Obliqu3) is seen as a key player in the French underground electronic scene due to its activism.

Once again we head back to Germany for the next outing on Poisonoise Music and it’s now the turn of Matthias Schildger , otherwise known as Star_Dub.
Matthias has been involved in the Electronic Music scene for a number of years now and has numerous releases of his own spanning across several labels – he also uses different aliases when releasing records, and my own personal favourite of his is the Star_Dub moniker.
Star_Dub has that real unique crossover sound that dips in around the deep/dub/techno/house genres, and this episode highlights this perfectly.

Matt Star is in love with electronic and Techno Music in 1995 (with 8 years) as he listen to a set from Sven Väth at the Radio from an Big Event called "Hessentag". In 1999, when he was only 12 years old, he started to contribute actively and played at various parties – at that time rather at private and illegal ones. He made his first musical attempts using a Play Station. While his mates were playing Super Mario and Pac Man, he tried to get crazy sounds out of the console and he was quite successful at it. 1 year later he began to produce his first tracks on his computer. In 2006 he released his first record "The art of M" on Weave Music. And just at its predecessor "Anin", the records were played by many well-known Djs. Matt Star describes his musical style as follows: “Everything I like or Microphunk“. He plays everything from Ambient and Trip Hop stuff to rather hard Techno – everything he likes, depending on the mood. But in the clubs he mostly goes ahead in a pretty strict and determined way: "it’s got to make people dance! it has to be groovy!" Up to now, Matt has already released a couple of records (see discography) He is also in high demand as a remix artist and is always busy creating new, amazing interpretations for his colleagues. There is a lot more to come!
