So last year I decided to embark on a little journey through the old School smooth hip hop tracks we used to bump while hanging out in our friends garages lighting up and free styling. I called this explorative process "Beats and Pieces" and I will be doing several other mixes like this over the years. The pharcyde was always one of my favorite hip hop groups growing up, so I wanted to make an ode to that style in attempts to modernize the sound design a bit, while still keeping the original flavor in tact, I offer this to my fans as a free "pay if you want" dowloand!

KIWA joins the Gravitas Recordings family July 7th with the first single off his massive album coming later in August.  KIWA has been a veteran on sound design and electronic music over the past 2 decades and has released with more than 20 labels worldwide over his career.  He has been laying low on music for the past two years perfecting his craft and wanting to bring something different into the current world of electronic music.  A perfect blend of future and past, this full album is inspired by the music from the 70s-90s and was produced, mixed and mastered using analog equipment.  These tracks were originally written between 2014 and 2022 and truly give us that nostalgic feel that we crave for in music.  

“The idea and lyrics for ‘Just a Hack’ stemmed from frustration on social media, racism and hate speech, online abuse, disinformation, lack of data privacy and the despotic and indifferent corporations behind the social media services. The track is a humoristic take on the subject, but with the intent to make the listener think about a common problem we’re all too familiar with. It’s a love/hate relationship we’re too afraid to let go. It’s a global regression of solidarity that has ethically set us back decades and made intolerance acceptable again, only within a few years.” - Markku Louhio (KIWA)

Just A Hack opens with an AI female voice that immidiately gave us flashbacks to Knife Party’s ‘Internet Friends’ and early 2012 era EDM.  A groovy breakbeat, retro synths and a driving bassline are introduced for a heavy hitting track teleporting us into a dystopian future.  This track feels like a soundtrack to a retro movie or cyberpunk video game, and truly merges the past and futuristic sounds of electronic music.  The AI voice hook continues through the track and KIWA builds a full cinematic experience with the use of extra synths and sound design.  This one will get stuck in your head for days and we aren’t complaining!

Gearing up for his debut United States tour, French artist Lil Fish is back on Gravitas Recordings with a mystical new EP ‘Biomechanics’ June 28th.  This EP showcases a heavier sound from Lil Fish while still holding true to his style, and is perfect timing for the incoming dancefloors in America. Lil Fish has been a staple of the Gravitas roster for ages now, and his early work with CloZee and other Gravitas artists helped create the sound best recognized with the label today.  This debut US tour is a big step to bring his music from France to America and has been in the works for some time; with this EP a part of the journey to showcase what is headed to America.  We look forward to seeing this talented artist grow and bring his sound from France to the fans that have waited years for the live experience.

Hello Yes, the duo consisting of guitarist Mitch Bell and saxophonist Aaron Leibowitz, was birthed during off time on the road with electronic artist Zhu who they continue to perform and collaborate with. The sound is novel, conjuring Mitch’s smokey, yet sophisticated guitar and Aaron’s gut jerking saxophone into compositions that could be described as indie groove meets electro club. The wave of first releases draws lyrically from true relationship struggles while exploring a sonic palette that blends modern electronic sounds with classic song writing. The two have toured the past 4 years frequenting main stages at EDC, Life is Beautiful, Electric Forrest, Lightning a Bottle, Bonaroo, Lollapalooza, ACL and many others. They can also be heard as collaborators on releases from Emotional Oranges, THEY., Jason Mraz, and Tame Impala. In a modern day fashion, the duo writes, produces, and performs all of their own music.
