The bands debut album ‘Dream Harder’ released in 2021 stands as the essence of everything they have striven for. Created in the spirit of creative collaboration and offering an adrenaline-rushing melting pot of influences, ‘Dream Harder’ was designed to uplift and entertain at every turn and is as audibly emphatic as it is visually immersive.

After cruising California and mooching Manhattan, boundary-breaking, multi-media, seven—miles-from-Manchester collective, Hello Cosmos complete their latest EP with the impatient, jagged, shoegaze broadcast of Skin. 

“A trip to the States and a jam session in New York saw ‘Skin’ emerge,” recalls Robinson. “The morning after jamming out the music, I flew to San Francisco and wrote the lyrics on the plane. On a high from the off-the-cuff studio session in NYC, Hereldeduke and I booked a studio just a day later in Los Angeles. We drove there down the coast. Californian gummy bears influenced the guitars and vocal take on ‘Skin’, all recorded at The Blue Room Studios in LA.” - Ben

An explorative, interstellar wonder that blends space-rock grandiosity with a gospel grace, “Old Friends Know” is the epic closing track of the band’s official second album ‘Come Out Tonight’ (out 5 Dec, via Cosmic Glue).

A paean to friendships that last the test of time and the feelgood factor of festivals at the height of Summer, of the track Hello Cosmos frontman Ben Robinson says: 

"The best thing about growing up is that the bond with your oldest mates gets stronger. You may see them a lot less but when you do the connection is deeper. This song tries to capture that feeling of coming together with old friends at your favourite festival.Bizarrely this started as a bit of a joke as I was waiting for an old mate to arrive one bank holiday weekend, three days in a row he slept in as he'd got on it the night before so I was sitting about strumming my acoustic and the main melody line came out, tongue in cheek…. I developed the song trying to capture the feeling of being arm in arm with your oldest mates at a festival.”

Taking the track into the studio, Simon Robinson added stadium-sized drums inspired by the Pearl Jam opus ‘Present Tense’, Angela Chan added her trademark string and piano propulsion, while Rob Slater brought out its searing atmosphere. Calling upon Emma Mason of Galaxians, the Leed-based artist added her legendary vocals and layers of added emotional gravity.

Manchester based collective Hello Cosmos have released their first single ‘Raise The Dawn’ and it’s accompanying B-side and remix. Put together and led by songwriter and bass player Ben Robinson, founder of Kendal Calling & Bluedot Festival, Hello Cosmos sees the musician surround himself with 20 collaborators for a huge, long running recording project at Leeds’ Greenmount Studios (The Cribs, New Model Army, Pulled Apart By Horses)

Beamed direct from an alternative universe in which The Fall were produced by DFA Records’ Tim Goldsworthy, Hello Cosmos hurtle towards Earth with a Radio Clash collision of post-punk, indie-disco and alternative rock that has already them earned them support across BBC 6 Music, Radio X and Louder Than War Magazine.

This colourful blast of influences can be heard on debut single ‘Raise The Dawn’, a brazen rat-a-tat style James Murphy rallying cry against mediocrity “Well I’m just a little bit tired of being spoon fed by the uninspired.” complete with the fractious accompaniment of frantic piano and infectious dance-rock groove. Hello Cosmos may be riled up on this disenchanted anthem but as the new burbling synthesized and radiant electronic remix of the single from Joe Thompson proves, they can also ride the indie-dance wave with a passion, recalling The Juan Maclean, Hercules And Love Affair and of course, LCD Soundsystem.

Though the recording process for Hello Cosmos has seen a huge cast of characters involved, the live band will consist of Ben himself fronting the band on bass, his brother and lifelong collaborator Simon on drums with the line up completed by Manchester & Leeds based musicians Angela Chan (Lanterns On The Lake, Placebo) on violin & keys and Adrian Ingham on guitar.

It’s a fitting entry point to one of the year’s most daring and dynamic debuts. Harnessing a cataclysm of sounds that owe as much to snarling Fall-esque post-punk as they do to the robotic future-facing electronica of the DFA Records canon, ‘Dream Harder’ presents a collection of songs designed to burst from the speakers with a life-affirming energy. It’s a record that looks to shake humanity out of this comatose, fearful and isolated world we currently live in and dares to dream of a new and utopian one that awaits tomorrow. With tracks that would feel as at home in a moshpit as they would on a dancefloor, on ‘Dream Harder’ Hello Cosmos look to reunite their long-since departed crowds under one virtual roof. 

‘Dream Harder’ was co-produced and mixed by Hello Cosmos and Jamie Lockheart at Greenmount Studios (Easy Life, The Cribs, Pulled Apart by Horses, Mush), with the exception of “Renegade Love” - the last track recorded for the album - which emerged from late night sessions in Brooklyn’s Braund Studios and LA’s The Blue Rooms studios. Additional mixing was provided by Rob Slater and Lee Smith.

Still assailing the starry heights, plugged directly into the Radio Clash antenna, Manchester collective Hello Cosmos’ continue their sonic bombardment with another post-punk and indie-dance assault on the senses and consciousness.

Half dreamily yearning, half volatile and scattergun narration, lead vocalist Ben Robinson sets out a blueprint for progressive unity to an accelerating vortex of Hadron Collidering influences on the Run For President EP.

The lead single and title-track is a call-to-arms, a raging tumult of grinding, fuzz and flaying intensity that swirls and envelopes around an Apache style tom beat and harmonic tribal sound clash of punkish dance and doom rock. At the eye-of-the-storm, Robinson uses a rich language, peppered with various literary references to riles against the false idols of superstition and the dark forces of commercialism that manipulate our behavior and loves. The message: Break off the shackles, cut the bullshit, discard the fairytales, and believe in yourself. 

The upcoming EP also features a herd of outsider musicians from Leeds underground scene with guests including Girl Sweat, James Smith (Post War Glamour Girls & Cruel World), Emma Mason (Galaxians & Lost Colours), Angela Chan (Lanterns on the Lake & Tomorrow We Sail) & Jack Simpson (Hype Park Book Club) plus production and mixing at Greenmount Studios.

The EP also features a remix by the infamous producer extraordinaire Jagz Kooner (Sabers Of Paradise). Jagz is renowned for his work on the original mix of Swastika Eyes for Primal Scream plus his crossover remixes for Oasis, Kasabian, The Charlatans & Soulwax.

The brainchild of the award-winning UK music festivals (bluedot and Kendal Calling) organizer Robinson, who also moonlights as the Boone alter ego, Hello Cosmos was set-up as an ongoing experimental recording collaboration that now spans over 50 collaborators and has evolved into a live touring show with a core 4 members taking the sonic bombardment on the road.
 
Hello Cosmos have also announced a sting of Festival dates in the coming months.
