Not Afraid

Eight years ago I was in my mom’s basement with my guitar and the most basic recording setup you can imagine.  I didn’t know anything about music production or anything at all really.  Somehow I came up with this melody that just couldn’t get out of my head.  It was probably the first moment I realized I might have written something good, so I wanted to sing it “one more time for those who are doubtful”.  While writing the lyrics (and feeling delightful), I looked at the clock, and it was 10:05 PM.  Since then I have written hundreds, probably thousands, of songs but this one stood the test of time.  Five Past Ten.

“When I was writing these songs, I pictured myself playing a house party in a dingy little beach town. Like, all these super-sweaty college kids dancing so hard. That’s the atmosphere of my music: a little town that makes a lot of noise.” DENM makes good on that promise with his debut EP, Dreamhouse, and single “Under Pressure,” which are awash with natural uppers. Hailing from Santa Barbara and having been in a handful of bands, he has spent every spare moment writing for this project.
 
Investing arduous hours into studio time, mingling pop and garage rock with BPMs and R&B, the musician admits his craft takes a ton of discipline. “I don’t smoke weed and… wait for inspiration. I’ll get in the studio and hustle—like, write 10 songs on the guitar just to get one good one,” then adding texture using synths and more guitars, producing the tracks himself into a hybrid between deep house, R&B, and pop.

Olivera is a singer & songwriter from Espoo, Finland. Her music lies somewhere between indie electronic and acoustic pop, and on her productions she works with the Finnish producer Lenno.

The debut album “Paradox” will be released October 28. Along with producer Lenno and Olivera herself the album is produced by Finnish hitmakers Alpo Nummelin (SANNI, Vesala, Ruusut) and Jori Sjöroos (PMMP, Vesta) and mastered by Grammy nominated Svante Forsbäck.

“Paradox” includes eight songs that each have a very deep meaning to Olivera. The title song “Paradox” is a catchy earworm that brings to mind the Danish superstar MØ. In the lyrics Olivera wonders the paradoxical needs of our time. “We yearn for things that eventually don’t even make us happy, including happiness itself. The weird nature of happiness is that it runs away. It’s not to be achieved by chasing, it’s a side product” says the artist herself.
 
Olivera has also worked as a songwriter and a featuring artist for names like Tiësto, Zaxx, 3LAU, Sonny Alven, Lucian and John Dahlbäck. So far the songs she’s written have been streamed over 45 million times and covered by outlets such as Billboard, Forbes and Scandipop.
