During 2010 I had the pleasure of recording a few bands and artists with my trusty mobile recording rig.

The female voice you hear is Hannah Grace, I recorded her track 'Bluebird' in a day. The male voice you hear is Daniel Duke, I recorded his four track EP in Bournemouth University over the course of four nights, it's since been released on CD and download worldwide. The band you hear is The Red Orchestra, I set up camp in their flat and recorded six tracks with them over three days, I also played trumpet on the EP, listen out for me!

With the exception of Daniel Duke, I used my MacBook, Ableton Live, a Line 6 Toneport UX2, and various mics to record.

Here's a few bits and bobs I've voiced for radio news bulletins and packages through my years at uni. Various styles, various locations, various equipment used. Mainly edited in Burli and Adobe Audition.

Radio Showreel

I'm currently the producer for Ben and Jack's Freakout a fortnightly radio show on nervemedia.org.uk. As well as producing all the live shows and generally ensuring the boys keep well within OfCom's strict rules and regulations, I'm also responsible for producing their idents and trails.

The trail you hear (between the two idents) is for Nerve* Radio's annual FM broadcast, the first FM broadcast of Nerve's history which saw an avante-garde music show on air. Incidentally, the same station also holds the title of giving Rebecca Black's 'Friday' its first UK airplay, but you can't win them all, can you?

Ben and Jack's Freakout Production

A few stings and idents I made for the news bulletins for fictional station BUzz Radio. These were made for a university assessed news bulletin using Adobe Audition. The vocals were recorded using Burli by me and edited within the hour after.

Here's a small mix of some of the tracks I recorded for Casini Division earlier on this year. In my typically DIY and chaotic fashion, these were recorded over a series of three nights (drum night, guitar night, and vocals night, respectively) in rooms rented out from Bournemouth University. The majority of the drum parts (with the exception of the first track you hear) were programmed by the guitarist Jack Chuter. Guitars, bass, and vocals were all recorded by Jack and myself. We also mixed all three tracks together.

Geeky information: All tracks were recorded and programmed using Cubase onto a MacBook Pro, drums on tracks one and two were programmed by Jack, drums on track one were recorded using two Shure SM58s through a Line6 toneport with a LOT of moon gel (they were old drums), guitars were recorded using an SM58 and a Behringer B-1 condensor using a Line6 Toneport, vocals were recorded using the B-1 through the Toneport as well. All tracks were mixed in Cubase and mastered in Adobe Audition.

Ben and Jack's final ever Freakout condensed into little over five minutes. These guys are two of the most knowledgable people I know when it comes to leftfield and avante-garde music and I've had the pleasure of producing their show for Nerve* Radio (nervemedia.org.uk). Aside from being top musos, they also have a habit of coming with some funny stuff, and some of that features in the above clip. Enjoy!

Ben and Jack's Final Freakout

A mix I made back in 2008 under the guise of 'freddibrek' when I was DJ'ing with my good friend Neil Tillbrook under the moniker of 'You Like Toast. We Don't.' We had fun, we weren't great, we were drunk. I did this on Ableton Live on a three-hour train journey from Bournemouth to Coventry. Enjoy!
