On the radar [01.21.25]

Live (slightly muddled) recording from our Lucid show over at Tapestry last month. Big thank you to @chum_b0 for the recording support. Thanks to @djpavv for the amazing photos. Really grateful to my friends for working together to create such a beautiful space for the evening. 

Approaching the curation of the setlist this time was challenging. Managing to balance between high intensity peak time and our more subtle 'lucid' thematic considerations was difficult but super rewarding. Looking forward to our next Lucid show coming soon :)

On the radar [05.21.25]

As a bass DJ I spend less time mixing  attentive to the quiet details of a track. Perhaps a part of me knows that management of the 'louder' elements of the track like bass was always more important and rewarding as a DJ to pour attention into. In the crowd, I always found it easier to move to the bass which why as a DJ I devoted myself to the bass. It came to much surprise to me then when I heard DJ Koze at Waking Life enmeshed in control over the full volume of the track, often pulling down the volume fader until the song was barely audible and the bass disappearing completely. It was as if he was training the audience's ear, teasing it by taking away the song halfway through. And when the track returned, it came full-throated and exploding in emotion. It would be odd I think to attempt this technique in a recorded mix for the range of its effects feel possible only in live settings. Nonetheless the spirit of what Koze did at Waking Life still animates me now and guided my approach in recording this mix. I discovered a new found joy in the small and barely audible. The tiny jingling of a hi-hat, far away in the distance, behind the clamour of a crowd.

On the radar [07.30.25]

1/3 of the Lucid crew join forces to create a meandering medley of tech house, techno tunes, and bass bangers.

Utopos is a Sydney-born, Toronto-based, deep techno and melancholic house DJ. Frequently spinning tunes of a psychedelic variety, Utopos finds ease in mixing complex melodies alongside deep grooving basslines. Inspired by the likes of Jane Fitz, Aaron J, and Prince of Denmark, Utopos draws from a wide range of influences. I am so excited to share this release as it preserves both our individual styles yet reflects a surprising synchronicity between them.

on the radar feat. utopos [08.11.25]

I've come to realize that my ambient sets are frequently visited by memories from bygone times. The songs I select are very much time-bound and rarely do I return to them on a frequent basis. Mixing them allows me to stich the memories together - Frankenstein-like. At times I find it a freakish, uncanny concoction. 

A joy that I find with mixing an ambient set is that I can focus purely on the emotion, along with the associated memory, of the track. A phenomenon that I do feel more constrained in accomplishing when selecting the next song in a dance mix. All of my tunes carry emotion, dance music as well, but there are really no shackles tieing me down when I mix ambient. It is freeing. I can go where I please and not have to worry about base parameters of a tune that can be worrying like bpm or key.

What a pleasure it was to perform on the rocks at Cottonwood Flats. Gratitude to the crew everyone involved and the beautiful audience who were so attentive.
