Life can often feel like a rollercoaster.  Soaring highs and crushing lows. 
 When we take a step back and ponder the possibility of something greater than us like the cosmos orchestrating the most beautiful and unpredictable symphony, then we can start to let go.  As with every symphony, there will always be a crescendo.  Whether that crescendo is high or low, there will always be a come down or a rebirth.  

This mixtape embodies the ever fluctuating waves of life and some of my personal favorite tunes I've been playing lately.  As with every mix, there is a story in there somewhere.  I hope you find your story!

Cosmic Crescendo | A Mixtape by Hendo Froth

It’s been nearly 7 glorious years since I first started blogging under the name SURF AMBASSADOR HENDO (SAH) and about 2 1/2 years since I began djing under the same alias.  In retrospect; the stories, the adventures, the friendships made, and the places I frothed as SAH were incredibly epic and truly beyond my wildest dreams.  The time has now come to turn a new page, to start a new trip, and to hit the ground running harder than ever before as I embark on a new journey as Hendo.

It is with much hubris, a bit of nostalgia, & a lot of excitement that I present to you: “Changing Of The Guards: SAH’s Last Mixtape”.  Featuring some classic jams, some fresh new sounds, & a few unreleased tracks from the mates, this mixtape is a musical exploration that balances the old with the new - the SAH with the Hendo.  If you listen closely enough, it is more than just a mix as it is also a story.  Each individual song contributes to the painting of a larger picture that is the story about my transformation from SAH to Hendo (hence the title & the album art).  In addition to the Changing Of The Guards Mixtape, I’d like to cordially invite you to my new website HendoFroth.com where you can exclusively get the tracklist for this mix & take a dive into some tunes & other interesting things that I’ve been enjoying lately.

Hendo here, reporting live & direct from Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa!  
For those of you legends out there unfamiliar with this majestical landscape, J Bay is home to one of the best right-hand point break waves and is currently hosting the World's best surfers for one of the most prestigious competitions known as the 2014 ASP J Bay Open.  

While I'm here workin' & frothin' the event for the next few weeks, I thought I'd send you all some Froth from overseas in the form of a mix.  Inspired by epic July summer nights painting the town red with good mates & firing myrts, this mix is an audio pick-me-up that'll have ya dancin' with the devil under pale moonlight in no time! My meditation practice recently lead me to the concept of Mandalas and I was incredibly inspired and intrigued in many ways.  Most mandalas involve creating beautiful and intricate masterpieces of art that often take days, weeks, or even longer to make.   The creators of this art dedicate all of their time, attention, and energy to create something that will eventually be purposefully destroyed and dismantled.  This destruction process represents the impermanence of life and I couldn't help but relate it to art, music, creation, and really anything we hold dearly.  There is a certain beauty in creating something just for the sake of creating.  No expectations and no attachment, just focusing on the journey and not the end result.  A magical hello and a peaceful goodbye.  I hope this idea, these tunes, this mixtape as a whole, and these words empower you to ride the ever changing waves of life in 2024 and beyond.  I myself am learning to let go a lot more.  Feel free to throw this mix in the ocean after enjoying, lord knows I will ;)

As much as I'm obsessed with Froth culture & for how much I say mate, legend, & cheers, I've never actually been to the holy motherland of Froth better known as Australia.  Tonight, that will all change...

As I pack my boards & prepare for 2 months of working the comps in Aus (with an adventurous jaunt in Bali in between), I've decided to leave you all with a parting gift in the form of this mix.  Some old, some new, but all nonetheless grooves, each song in this mixtape features an artist or remixer (or sometimes both) from Australia that I've grown to love throughout the years and just goes to show how rich Australia is with great music.  As I head out back on the road to the land down unda, I hope you froth out to this mix as much as I did when making it. Planes buzzing overhead, motor bikes honking, foreign languages conversing, rainfall colliding with the Earth, & the sound of waves crashing accompanied by hoots of glory and gasps of disbelief.  In the distance I see temples of worship, black sand beaches, white sand beaches, skyscrapers towering over hustling cities, jungle trees filled with jungle creatures, swaying hammocks awaiting their next victim, mystifying sunsets painted by the gods, stars so bright and so close I naturally reach for them, and the often familiar friendly face gazing in my direction.  The scent of tropical wax graces my nose along with piping hot expresso, salty seaweed, ice cold ales paired with tropical spirits, and the ever so present crisp ocean breeze.  I awake to find myself in an unfamiliar bed with no true grasp of date or time but a feeling of being somewhere and doing something reveals itself as with every morning sun.  Time stops and I'm back where I started, the whole time thinking about Life On The Road.  Running from nothing, searching for no one, but doing it all for the thrill of the unknown.  This is Life On The Road, the greatest teacher I never met.

Dearest muse maiden:
The past 7 months have been a spontaneous ebb & flow as my journey on the road has taken me to places I once dreamt about and has enriched my life all the while.  My bags are packed once again. This time I'm heading south and will be dancing the samba by sundown.  Do not despair my dear, I'll be back sooner than you know.  As I head off into the distance, I leave you with a souvenir from my prior travels.  A musical collection of melodies & rhythm awaits you in my web on a cloud made of sound.  Occupied with ballads from a distant past, songs from the here and now, & future classics, this is a gift from me to you made with love & happiness for all of time. Life On The Road | A Mixtape For Drifters

Here's my Live set from my CRSSD Festival Fall 2024 performance.  This was my first time playing at CRSSD and I was beyond stoked to open for such legends as Disclosure, Soulwax, Neil Frances, Bicep, Erol Alkan, Four Tet, Gesaffelstein, and many more.   

My set was on the shorter side but I learned that having such constraints actually  lets creativity flourish.  As such, I tried to pack my set with tracks that I loved at the time while also letting them breathe.  I was also incredibly honored to have premiered Flight Facilities and Drama's brand new track at that time entitled 'Dancing On My Own'  as released by the legends at Glitterbox.

It leans a bit more italo disco / indie dance / Blog House and the title pays homage to my surf roots, Italo disco, and various transportation systems in Berlin.  This track is a time-capsule  for my formative journey in Berlin.

Here's my unoffical flip of 'Yemamaya' re-imagined for rooftop dance floors, lounges, surf shacks, and anywhere that serves ice cold bevvys and hot hot tracks. This chune pairs quite nicely with a caipirinha, açaí, and a pastel de queijo.  Big ups to Luizga & iZem for making such a beautfiul song.

‘Olive Juice’ draws from my early days of DJing in Los 
Angeles. It’s inspired by Bloghaus-adjacent legends like: Oliver, GLOVES, Mylo, Chromeo, Poolside, and the blogs that paved the way for dance music’s evolution at the time.

I was in studio having a casual YOLO Mojito when I started playing around with a Wurli lead. 
I then added some warm synths, too much cowbell, a splash of cuica, and a 303 lead made from analog. The bass was inspired by lords like Alan Braxe & Fred Falke, while the acid lead draws inspiration from the ledge-dogs of Poolside.

The lyrics of the vocal sample speak of wanting to love—and wanting to love with. Whether that love is romantic, familial, topophiliac, or tied to a person, place, or thing is up to you. I have my own personal meaning, and I hope you find yours.

‘Olive Juice’ is my 2nd 
official release and altho I’ve got a long way to go on my production journey, I continue to enjoy every step of the ride. Thank you for listening, your continued support, and for those of you who continue to inspire me and make me move.

My travels find me writing you again, this time from a familiar place just a day’s journey down the road from where I once called home.  Since we last danced to disco under the moonlight, these eyes have seen enough gold to make a grown man cry.  Alas, this gold is not monetary, its currency is in the form of beauty.   From tropical dreamland islands and coasts where fresh coconuts fall before mesmerizing lefts to a perfect pealing righthand point break where wild life runs rampant and a monster mutant at the end of the road that challenged only the bravest to take the plunge, this voyage has been one for the ages.  As I continue my quest to find the ultimate paradise, a place rumored to be called Paradisco, I have taken this photograph and gathered some musical memoirs from my travels for you along the way.  Some old, some new, some groovy, and some blue, wherever you are I hope they make it to you.  Forever inspired by your passion for life, I hope to inspire the World round in just the same.  Perhaps by the time this postcard makes its way to you, I will have reached Paradisco and will be basking in all its glory and it is there where we will dance again.

I currently live in a constant state of departure.  Yesterday I watched the red sun shrink into the eerily quiet City of Angels.  Today I'm back on the road chasing waves and unforeseen adventures.  Tomorrow I'll be gone again and so it goes. 

If I've learned anything from my jaunt with this roaming lifestyle, an appreciation for being truly present in every moment would certainly top my list.  Why worry about that which we can not control (the future)?  The answer will surface when it's meant to.  Alternatively, why loiter in what could have been, what once was, and what we now deeply miss (the past)?  Everything has happened for reasons beyond our comprehension and again, the answer will surface when it's meant to. At the end of the day, we must be thankful for who & what we have in front of us now, for time is knocking on a door that we can not open.  These precious moments are fleeting and all we have is now. 

This mixtape houses a bouquet of old, new, frothy, & blue tunes that combined play like the ever-changing waves of the ocean which always beckon your truest present moment existence. Perhaps underneath it all, if you listen closely, there's an epic story to tell. Either way, summer is waving goodbye in our rear view and it's time to take one last joyride. Music up/windows down, hit the coast, and feel the ocean's power tickle your soul.  Feel the moment, embrace the winds of change, and do not fold any cards of fate you'll soon be dealt. Be Here Now & Love the one you're with.  Here Today & Gone To Mars..

THE SAHga // Chapter 1: Born Into The NuWave

Once upon a time in an ocean far far away, Poseidon was drunk.  Fatigued and troubled by a Sloth-like Dark World where lethargy, apathy, and a general sense of "paradise lost" reign supreme and the glory days where Sunshine, Hapiness, and genuine Froth were nothing but a dwindling memory; he was about to lose all hope.  Needless to say, he needed a temporary escape for the night.  6 MindTai's and 2 Steele Reserves deep, there he sat, wasted in his underwater domain.  Hungry, and as horny as Agamemnon on a Tuesday, the Sea God was growing restless and needed some sort of entertainment aside from the usual skyping with Gepetto.  As fate would have it, the gorgon trog better known as Medusa, just so happened to be lurking the depths of that very same ocean on that very same night.  Just like the glorious all mighty Poseidon, she too was blacked out beyond repair...

Sworn enemies and bitter arch nemesi, never in a million years would these two mythological deities even acknowledge each other's presence.  Whether it was the malt liquor talking or a cruel joke played by Hades, the enemies soon became well acquainted in more ways than one.  Things got weird fast and as Poseidon began to passionately caress Medusa's third nipple, a chilling wave of ecstasy danced from her neck all the way down to her sacred parts and engulfed her like a newly knit grandma quilt.  It was the most beautiful culmination of good vs evil, when two become one, like a virgin touched for the very first time, and within a minute and forty seven seconds, it was all over.  

As they awoke sober, confused, and sickened beyond belief, they parted ways and swore to never speak of the filth that occurred that night and to never speak nor see each other ever again, doing so would result in death by SUP (a cruel medieval punishment where SUP boarders surround you and stir/poke you to death).  9 Months later, a beaten and battered package that lay on top of a glistening white surfboard, submerged itself right to Poseidon's watery door...

As the confused Poseidon ripped open the package using his trusty trident, the World seemed to suddenly rumble as he initially discovered what lay within.    Out of no where, giant violent swells began to disrupt the sea, crackens and sirens screaming "The End Is Here!!" littered the air and depths of the water, and the heaviest of off shore winds started howling like never before!  It was an abrupt apocalyptical experience but it soon subsided as Poseidon took a second glance, reached in the package, and grabbed its contents.  The suddenly shaken Sea World started surfacing above Poseidon's Palace and floated still in anticipation as Poseidon quickly swam his way to surface and triumphantly lifted a new born baby out of the water and straight into the air - Muthafuckin Simba Style (MSS)!  Wearing nothing but a pair of headphones and a fashionable v-neck t-shirt that read "We Should Have Used Condoms :(", it was clear that this was no ordinary baby.  

Fifteen minutes passed and a proud Poseidon (still holding the baby), finally began to speak: "Lords, Myrtles, Sea Creatures, Cocksman, and Sub-humans, Today, a mighty gift is upon us!  From the depths of the Sea and the highest peaks of the sky, I present to you my only Son!".  A huge wave of shock and awe swept the crowd as Poseidon fervently shook the baby and continued; "He is the chosen one, he is our only hope, he shall be the one who rids our World of the evil Sloth, and brings back the FROTH! CAN YOUUU DIGGG ITTT????!!!".  The eclectic crowd of sea creatures and water freaks went silent as they looked at each other, pondered what was happening, farted, and then went absolutely apeshit as they cheered with joy and excitement at the promise of a brighter future and a new born hero!  An overly excited hunchback whale in the crowd named Keropy suddenly raised his voice and asked "Dear Lord Poseidon (All Hail), you have indeed graced us with a mighty gift and for that we are forever grateful.  But dear lord, what shall we cal this Nu Born Hero?".  All of a sudden, Poseidon rose from the sea surface and floated on some kind of elegantly inverted whirlpool, lifted the baby, and sternly announced:
 "WE SHALL CALL HIM SAH!!!!!!".  
"Yeeeeeeeeeehooooooo! Umm, but sire, what does that even mean?" Keropy replied.  
"Ah, yes my dear Keropalz, it's French, it means SURF AMBASSADOR HENDOOOOO!!!" at that very same instant, baby SAH lifted his little fist as high as he could and extended the most beautiful shaka the World has ever seen.  The crowd lost it this time and erupted with bro-calls, hoots, yeeeows, shakas, fist pumps, back rubs, spirit fingers, and hip-hip-hooarays - for they all knew at that incredible moment that baby SAH would indeed be the one to bring the Froth back to their sloth-infested cold World.  The future of Froth was in his hands.

And so it begins..
