This is the last live-recording by myself playing in public before the pandemic hit Berlin. It has been captured at a party in eastern Berlin called Domestic Affairs. I was quite nervous and had stage fright because this party and the people who organize it mean a lot to me. My slot was 7 in the morning so I decided to catch some sleep before and get up very early. I played 100% Bangers to keep the people going and I remember one friend showing up in the middle of the set calling me "a crazy motherfucker". I thought about sharing this recording quite a while but never did it. I thought if I put it online I would have taken myself chance to play these records at other parties in summer. The pandemic made this impossible - so I think it's time to let it go.

Bleeding Roots

In May I was invited to record a 2-hours  mix for the great jazz-focused Idle Moments series on dublab.de. I normally need ages for recording mixes. So I was struggling hard to say 'yes' - since I had only 24 Hours until the show. What followed was a quite intimate morning with my lushest and almost forgotten organic records (I really needed to remove dust from certain bins). The outcome accompanied me at some special moments this summer. So in the end I'm pretty happy that I accepted @jcreutzfeldt 's challenge and found the time to put those beauties togehter.

Guest Mix For Idle Moments @ Dublab Cologne

This mix is a deep dive into the legacy of a record collector that generously passed a crate of one-of-a-kind gems to @skism and me. We know who she is, but she decided to remain anonymous. In return we promised to make a mix and the project became a fascinating journey into the past of a music lover with a sweet spot for forgotten folkloristic music from remote places around the globe. On the other side of the spectrum we discovered a lot of krautish ambient excursions, some classical music and some very inspiring Jazz records. Known and unknown stuff. Old and contemporary. We tried our best to a create mix which pays tribute to all these influences and failed a couple of times before we finally came to a result: 
A trippy ride from Asia to the western hemispheres and back.

EQing might sound a bit weird - I beg your pardon. I took more care of peoples ears than for the recording. But I tried my best make it edible after and hope it's enjoyable now.

Here's our recording from @valentin-hauptmann and me at this years lovely Zmar Festival and we're super happy to finally share it with you. Thanks to all these fantastic creatures who shared this memorable saturday afternoon with us. For the two of us it has been one of the best moments this year.

The sound might be a bit off due to the leveler, odd EQing, intense fun and a great Friday night. But we hope that after some editing it’s edible now!

This is the recording of a spontaneous takeover at cashmere radio since Valentin got sick and wasn't able to do his show. It was a very chilled afternoon and basically it was just me in the studio. So I could fully get lost in music.

Here we go. The opening set of the first Dr33333ams party by Frinda di Lanco & Hendrik Stein does exactly what it says on the tin. Dreamy, flute-driven melodies melting into hypnotic drum patterns, 90s proto vibes meeting the fluorescent shine of the black light. The dj duo and initiators of the party with a penchant for vinyl records know their genres. Being able to resurrect with a fresh new dance-oriented concept after having just ended a colourful disco party series that used to be a collector's wet dream shows the couple's ability to grow and evolve, setting a focus on the dance floor experience, a raw and passionate moment to undergo. As always staying away from the obvious, Frinda & Hendrik have build their sound on the lesser known edge of progressive house, proto & freestyle house, HiNRG, euro dance, acid and trance. As a rather quiet force in time and space you can witness how the duo has put continuous hard work into musical research and refining their performance. As a result you'll be taken to a unique, honest and well-crafted place where you're allowed to let go, shake it all out and find your true self.

Sorry for the huuuuge delay on this one. Here comes the recording of my set at this years Zmar festival. This year I was blessed with a night-time slot at the chill out stage and I took the chance for a deep dive into tipppy idm and more or less classic chill-out tuneage. Thanks to those who kept with me in a pretty cold night and  once more to the fantastic @zmarfestival crew for making this gathering possible.

I played this selection of records at the end of a full-moon-night at a remote place outside berlin. The people there were a bit freaky through the whole night, but when the first sun-ray sliced the fog, most of them turned into wild animals. Unfrotunately the recording of this special moment clips like hell, but people kept asking for a recording. So I re-recorded the first 2 hours in another really strange night on my home-hifi. It was hard to capture the emotions and ambience of this very special setting, but this is all I can offer.

It's been a while that I just did a mix just for the pleasure of doing a mix. And even this one was on my harddrive after recording for quiet some time now. It's a selection of records I play not often enough and records which I was really happy to find in the last months.

Unnamed Mix With Random Image

YAYA was a concept label by Joe Mubare and Mark Polscher founded in 1989 and only released three records by Votu, One Tounge and Joe Mubare himself. When I first stumbled across this special music, I instantly felt the desire to create a mix around it. So I started to dig through my collection to search for records with this transcendental yet mystical new-age-vibe, which the YAYA records are spreading. It turned out to get a really ambitious project - a concept mix to worship a concept label.

The first take of this mix was recorded in December 2018 - three months later I'm more than happy to present this mix as a tribute to YAYA. I'm pretty optimistic that I will still like this mix when I'm old and grey.

THF Radio with Hendrik Stein // 07.08.20

Not sure if you already heard about this new community radio @refugeworldwide. They started broadcasting from Berlin a few weeks ago and besides the great political/social purpose of this station, the progamming is very nice. Between Christmas and NYE found the time to record a guestmix for them, reflecting on memories before this pandemic made everything strange and - of course - records which I (re)discovered or bought in this year. I was quite surprised, that I can still play uptempo music, although it feels like the next crowded dancefloor is lightyears away.
