Dawn Live at Queen Elizabeth NP

Recorded shortly after a shower during the rainy season in the Atlantic Forest Reserve Mbaracayú, Paraguay. 

This dusk chorus climax is dominated by amphibians. After some initial research, the species heard are Leptodactylus elenae (or fuscus?), Leptodactylus mystacinus and a Dendrosophus (minutus or nanus).

European Green Toad (Bufotes viridis)

One night in early August 2015 i walked along the waterfront at Lake Neusiedl in Austria. Passing by the lanterns i recognized hundreds of Great Silver Water Beetles (Hydrophilus piceus) on the floor around each lantern. As many insects, they seemed to be attracted by the light and could not escape its glow once they got captured in it. Again and again they took off the floor to circle around the light - until they either collided with the lantern or just fell down in complete disorientation - in both cases knocking hard on the floor, often landing on their back, then struggling to turn over on their feet again. Water Beetles are pretty clumsy when moving on land and while crawling drag their bodies over the floor. This hopeless and messy situation changed instantly, when the lights were switched off just after 1 a.m. - listen what happened then in the second half the recording!
