Behind the next release on Meant Records are Italian duo Boot & Tax, a relatively new pairing made up of Claudio Brioschi and Cristian Croce. Here they serve up three great originals baced with a stellar remix from Alien Alien.
Before now, Boot & Tax have released two extremely well received EPs on JD Twitch’s Optimo Trax and have also recently had their music licensed to Erol Alkan’s Fabric live 77, so the pair are really on the up.
Title track ‘Brace Brace’ is first and is an elastic, analogue workout with gurgling synth lines riding up and down atop steely drums as punky vocals come on at various intervals. Acid and electro, techno and house all get bottled up in the arrangement, which is fresh and just what you would expect of someone backed by JD Twitch.
The Alien Alien remix of this one is slow and trudging, purposeful and swampy. Snaking synths, coarse claps and a sense of foreboding pervade this most groovy of slo mo cuts.
‘Niente Per Niente’ is a dark but balearic feeling bit of chugging disco, with big licks and groaning bass all gliding along at an inviting tempo. Breathy female ad libs add a sense of character to the shadowy drums and ensure this one will set parties like ALFOS on fire. Lastly, ‘Balkan Youth’ gets much more cosmic with its flipping synths, twinkly melodies and rattling percussive patterns. Ascending ever higher, it takes you on a ride through the cosmos and dumps you out somewhere altogether happier.
This is sure to be a breakout release for Boot & Tax who seem right at the heart of the analogue disco revolution.

Partial Press Release: The 43rd release on microCastle welcomes Brian Cid back to the label for a brand new EP. The NYC based artist has enjoyed much success since his label debut in December of 2014. An EP on Hot Since 82's Knee Deep In Sound and a mini LP on Guy J's Lost & Found Records top his 2015 highlights, while 2016 holds even greater promise with a new project for Cityfox on the horizon. Over the last 12 months Brian's sound has taken on a life of its own, increasingly organic and deeply emotional, the US artist has further stretched his sonic boundaries, with luminaries such as Adriatique, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Joris Voorn, Richie Hawtin and Thugfucker now play listing his music. His return to microCastle has been much anticipated and a quiet start to 2016 has only made his rapidly expanding fan base even hungrier for new material. Brian now presents his second EP for the Canadian imprint entitled 'Belles Du Shaman' alongside a remix from Eagles & Butterflies.

The release begins with the title track and finds Brian carving out one of his most distinctive grooves to date. Layered beats and mystical pads set the piece in motion before an underbelly of warm bass swells fully initiates the journey. Highlighted by soulful vocal stabs the first act strikes an emotive chord, foreshadowing a break of warm harmonies and cinematic tones, ultimately leading to a third act of timely drops and heart-warming rushes. It's one of Brian's most unique creations and not surprisingly it comes from a special place, as he describes "Belles Du Shaman is a musical story of pain & struggle as well as hope & light. The hard drums and synths set the tone for this deep, pulsating and melancholic EP, that drowns in a sea of sounds, touching every weak corner of my heart. When I wrote this track I had just visited the mountains of Utah, more than 10,000 feet up. In a night of music and stars I was moved by how powerful and meaningful a space in time can be. A land that provides us with water, food, shelter... it gives us life as well as meaning. Imagine losing this. How it can impact our life and culture as well as our history and being. The end result of all these feelings and realizations came out in this track."

For a label to reach that revered 200th release landmark in an electronic music business that is so volatile and unpredictable should be greeted with the utmost respect it quite rightly deserves. 

Rotterdam-based DJ/Producer Paul Hazendonk has been the driving force behind Manual Music since its inception in 2005, and has established his label as a crucial platform for exciting talent, focused on sonic innovation that is always fresh and original. So, it is entirely appropriate that the label’s celebratory 200th instalment features two highly creative remix interpretations of the tracks from Paul’s MAN187 release from early summer 2016, courtesy of Hernan Cattaneo partnered with Martin Garcia, and Boss Axis, alongside a brand new original masterpiece of the highest order from the main man himself.

The majestic melodious beauty of ‘Sanction’, married to an exceptionally developed groove aesthetic, is the sure sign of a masterful producer at work. This exceptional new track is joined here by Hernan Cattaneo and Martin Garcia’s exquisite interpretation of ‘Profound Shift Of Conceptual Awareness’. Having previously worked together on many projects over the years for the likes of Perfecto, Bedrock, and Shinichi/Yoshitoshi, their remix pedigree is second to none. Paul’s original version was a brooding beast of a track that sparked with electric intensity, and the genius of this Argentinian duo has been to create a deeply hypnotic, restrained and ultimately joyous interpretation. 

“Since this is Manual’s 200th release, I thought it would be an appropriate juncture to ask producers I really love and respect to do a remix for one of my tracks. Hernan Cattaneo was quick to come to mind since I really respect him. It’s been too long since Hernan last appeared on my label when he remixed Eelke Kleijn in 2011, so I thought the time was right to ask him, and fortunately he quickly agreed to be on board and created this excellent remix of ‘Profound Shift Of Conceptual Awareness’ with another great Argentinian heavyweight - Martin Garcia.” – Paul Hazendonk

Coming together out of their own individual musical worlds, Rodriguez Jr. and Liset Alea met 15 years ago creating music for Laurent Garnier’s legendary imprint, F Communications. Since then, each have gone on to have blinding careers of their own, developing individual personas and sounds, becoming leaders in their fields.

A stunning partner, singer-songwriter, Liset Alea has been releasing albums since her teens. Perfectly poised for stardom since, her solo career saw her co-founding drum and bass, trip-hop band, Etro Anime in New York; co-writing and providing vocals on all songs. From here the only way was up for Alea, leaving the band to pursue her own truly solo ventures, her debut LP, No Sleep, released on EMI, was popular across multiple European territories. As an already well-seasoned artist, she later fronted the French new-wave group, Nouvelle Vague for seven years, touring the world, providing exciting and enchanting performances. With such a notable career to date that spans numerous musical styles from Drum and Bass to Downtempo New Wave, it is clear to see how Alea and Rodriguez Jr. are so perfectly matched.  
 
Known to many, as one of the best live electronic music acts the industry has to offer, Rodriguez Jr. is a multi-faceted musician as opposed to a DJ or producer. Well respected for his unique brand of melodic techno, Jr. takes his influences from genre’s far and wide feeding into his eclecticism. From classical artists such as Stockhausen to electronic groups such as Kraftwerk and LFO, his performances offer a new take on how electronic music can function in a club environment. Upon signing with Mobilee Records, Rodriguez has remained one of the imprints most treasured artists, proving time after time that live electronic music and performance, is as spell binding as any digitized track or record being spun. 

No strangers to collaboration, Jr. and Alea recently worked together on Rodriguez’s album ‘Baobab’; it was here that their creative flame was ignited. Inspired by one another’s musical tastes, the synergy between these two talents was clear from the start, making the prospect of future work together a certainty. Now picking back up on unfinished business, Jr. and Alea announce their new project RJLA, kicking things off with summer track ‘Radio’, releasing on Rodriguez’s native home, Mobilee Records.

Drawing on previous collaborations together, new and original single ‘Radio’ is a reflection of both artists musical appetites. Alongside ‘Radio’ Jr. and Alea include ‘Radian’, initially released by Rodriguez on his ‘Baobab’ album, Alea and him re-recorded the track during their cliff-top live performance for Cercle; Alea’s vocals elevating Rodriguez’s highly complex and technical melodies to new places. An extremely exciting and interesting project for Mobilee, the partnership between Rodriguez Jr. and Liset Alea presents electronic music for ears on and off the dancefloor.

RJLA - Radian (Cercle Version)

The team of Felix and Yannek Maunz give their debut on the infamous label Katermukke.  After a few collaborations of the two producers and live acts from Berlin, they gave rise to their track 'Choices'. A melancholic symphony which carries Felix voice and delivers a chiming groove of a deep and dancy dream. The warm and blistering „Synth Sequence“ on the drop definitely gives the track its characteristic sound and touch.

„Choices“ is Part of the EP „Shining One“ which also includes two tracks of Daniel Jaeger and Cook Strummer.
