Sofatalk & XL Regular have come up with a wonderful jazzy EP for Outplay. Filled with warm chords and broken house beats. Italy’s Piero Paolinelli and Alessandro Giacchi are the newest addition to our Outplay family. They have released music previously on Omena, ANMA, Cognitiva Records (Sofatalk’s own label), INI Movement, Nómada and Monologues. 

Their EP for Outplay is called Afro Quarters EP and contains 4 electronic jazz funk infused house tracks and make for a perfect testimony of their musicianship.

Rumble Strip kicks off with broken beats turning into a 4x4 house beat filled with percussion, dreamy keyboard licks and sultry vocals to underline the floaty vibe. The title track, Afro Quarters, is up next pushing us further into their signature jazz infused broken beat house style. With the funky bassline and the stabby keys it’s hard not to move. Throw in tastefully done flute and Rhodes solos for the mature sound they’re known for.

The third piece is called Easy and contrary to its name it’s not as chilled out as you’d think. It’s incredibly groovy, with heavy staccato bass and keys, while keeping the dreamed out jazzy chords to balance it out. It makes us think of the masterful work of Kaidi Tatham. “On The Run” concludes the EP and continues the vibe displayed throughout the release filled with arpeggiated and stabby keys and vocal bits.

African Rhythms is Haze City's ode to AfroBeat and the amazing music that came out of Nigeria in the 1970/80's by incredible artists such as Fela Kuti, Tony Allen & Ebo Taylor.
Since its creation Afrobeat has influenced multiple genres and countless artists around the globe, with its pulsating poly rhythms and incredible musicianship.
Combining Afrobeat with Broken Beat is of course nothing new, with legends of the Bruk scene such as IG Culture & Bugz In The Attic having already done this to devastating effect.

This however, is a Haze City's humble ode to a genre he has a huge amount a love and respect for.

New single from @momentcinetique you say, yeah "send it over" I say. Oh it's from @Intr0beatz. Aye proper, they're always a brilliant team I thought to myself. They didn't even mention the remix from @warren_xclnce and I was chomping at the bit to get my hands on it.

Safe to say I definitely wasn't disappointed. Moment Cinetique is a proper go-to label for me and has been for a couple of years, the A&R is always off the scale breaking new artists but also keeping great relationships with longstanding artists which is the mark of a classy label. They also don't force the releases just putting out music that feels right and that shines through as every release has it's own energy.

Madolinio is a throbbing slice of kick-ass underground deep house. Techy but organic, packed with energy and a real vitality it's a real benchmark for the brilliance of house music in 2023.

Next up to take over our Madhouse Podcast series is Owain, a staple in the UK house underground, heading up renowned vinyl-only label, 124 Recordings. 

Established in 2012 this was a platform for artists such as Janeret, Demuja, Jay Shaw, Sebb Junior, Ortella, 2 Bit Crew and many more, providing an outlet for lesser known artists who have now risen to become household names within the underground. With an ear and strict ethos for nothing but true house music, the catalogue is one we highly respect and admire.

124 was closed earlier this year but with new label Puresa Records ready for launch soon we can expect to hear more of the same high standards and quality music from Owain's next venture.

This is one our favourites so far, an hour of house goodness.

In 2024, ELANDA transitioned into live performance, incorporating music production, vocals, and stagecraft to connect with audiences in a deeper, more dynamic way.

As a co-founder of the Lüuma Collective and Annies Eden, they create conscious spaces through events that celebrate holistic healing, sound baths, and somatic workshops. ELANDA’s work is dedicated to fostering community and empowering personal expression through music and movement.
