RMT TRNSMSSN 4.0

10 years ago Sonny Moore aka Skrillex released his second EP "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" and forever changed dance music and the music industry as a whole. I was 16 years old and my "taste" in music was limited to what played on the radio while on the way to school each morning, what my older brother played around me, and the classic rock my dad played in the car. The release of SMANS had a profound impact on my life and lead to my passion for dance music and DJing. Anyone who knows me knows that those two things, dance music and DJing, are the cornerstones of what makes me who I am and how deep my love for them is.

While many view Skrillex as just a guy who made who dubstep in the 2010's, that couldn't be further from the truth.

Over the past decade Skrillex has made records with some of the most well known and revered musicians in the world. Whether it be with Justin Bieber, The Doors, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, or Ed Sheeran, Moore has cultivated a genre-blending mastery of production that highlights his collaborators performance and while staying true to his unique style of production, with each release sounding fresh and unlike the one before. At some point he earned a Grammy doing it too. Nice. 

While I love his solo work the most and can't wait for more (please drop your next album soon), his collaborative releases have been essential in helping evolve and grow my own taste in music from one that was narrow and one-dimensional to an inclusive, open-minded perspective that sees the merits in all types of music. This understanding that music is subjective and that no one genre or artist is better than another has amplified my enjoyment for all music ten-fold and I will forever be grateful for that. 

Yes, I know, I am a fan-boy. That's okay though. If I've learned anything over the past decade it would be that it is okay to be excited about something, and it is okay to want to share that with others. There is nothing to gain from being too cool to show excitement or love for a hobby, artist, or any interest one may have. So yeah, total fan-boy. 

Anyways, I made this to celebrate his artistry and to share my love for the energy he brings to the stage. It is modeled after three of the last shows he did before the pandemic, one of which being his set at Lights All Night 2019. I was at that show, and it was the last time I can remember being carefree without a worry on my mind, surrounded by close friends and loved ones.

I put a ton of work into this, and if you take a listen, hopefully you'll have as much fun listening to it as I did making it. Enjoy!
