exploring the concept of being lonely in a big city. The song speaks to the epidemic of loneliness that exists in big cities. Many feel extreme loneliness and isolation living in cities even though they are surrounded by many people.  Our Solari character feels trapped and lonely. Her journey is to figure out how to escape. The Japanese lyrics are Solari questioning if she’s capable of loving anyone, letting someone deep inside her heart.

Where We Are explores the temporary nature of human existence against the majesty of our natural world.  The composition interweaves Simi’s violin, acoustic guitar, voice, and body percussion with David’s piano, EMS Synthi, and string arrangement.  Simi opens a briefcase that Simi's father left for her after his death in the winter of 2010.  The tears are raw and authentic. The cosmic letting go opens up the surreal world that David and Simi occupy.   David writes a note to the future.  None of know where we are going. Where are where we are - but where is that really?  Shot at the edge of winter/spring in the lush Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York and Beethoven Hall in New York City.

David Baron's work has sold millions. As a producer, arranger, performer, orchestrator and engineer his credits include The Lumineers, Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor, Lenny Kravitz, Michael Jackson, Peter Murphy, Simone Felice, Melanie De Biasio and Bat For Lashes.

David arranged and conducted strings for Shawn Mendes on 'Bad Reputation' from the number 1 album in 65 countries 'Illuminate Deluxe'. He played piano, organ and baritone saxophone on one of the biggest selling singles of all time ('All About That Bass' Meghan Trainor). He performed on The Lumineers #1 Billboard Album 'Cleopatra' and produced and co-wrote both 'Strangers' by fellow Woodstock artist Simone Felice and 'Ninth' with Peter Murphy. David provided synths, programming, production and mixing to 'The Bride' (Bat For Lashes) which was shortlisted for Mercury Music Prize 2016.

More recently he scored a film for The Lumineers called 'Cleopatra's Story'. And is currently scoring Gregory Colbert's follow up to the award winning Ashes & Snow (edited by Oscar winning Pietro Scalia, soundtrack by Jóhann Jóhannsson). Both films are narrated by
Laurence Fishburne.

Woodstock singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist Simi Stone cannot be contained in a single word or sentence. Simi's alluring presence both in the studio and onstage will fill you with joy and wonder. She attended the New York Conservatory for the Arts - acting, dance and voice, studied classical violin from the age of eight, and started writing music since age nine. Simi has just completed a new album titled “ The Rescue" due out in late spring 2017 with collaborator David Baron. Simi Stone has worked with various artists such as Natalie Merchant, Conor Oberst, David Byrne, filmmaker Gregory Colbert and many more…Simi will be on tour with the New Pornographers this April through June 2017.

Beethoven Hall was build on the Lower East Side around 1860, important to socialist and labour movements before becoming a film studio. In 2016 David recorded much of his album there to be released on the 100 year anniversary of Marxist revolutionary Leon Trotsky's infamous address “You do not want any militarism or any government which is not of any help to the working class, but which is always prepared ready to fire on the working class, and is the enemy of the working class. It is now time that you do away with it once and forever.”

Later in the 20th Century it became home to film studio Mother's Sound Stages where tonnes of tv and film were shot including fight scenes from Raging Bull and several episodes of The Honeymooners.

David comments
Running Up That Hill has one of the most meaningful lyrics:  “There’s so much hate for the ones we love”.  It is a stark reality for many who are in troubled relationships.  We just do not understand each other.  The bittersweet plea to God to swap places is perfectly sung by Donna Lewis. The string quintet, modular synthesizers,  and vocals morph between sweet and strident, sonorous and dissonant. There is never a true resolution, only a musical ladder that is climbed without ever reaching the top.  You can see the clouds - but you can not touch them.  The wish can not be granted musically or otherwise.  It is in this yearning that a truth is revealed by Kate Bush - it is up to us to try to understand each other.

I’ve been a huge Kate Bush fan for years so when David suggested we record a cover of Running Up That Hill with just strings and vocals I was all in! 

The powerful lyrics always got me thinking: what if we could swap roles with other people? What if we were to walk in someone else’s shoes? If we could, perhaps we would find a lot more compassion for each other. David and I wanted to give Running Up That Hill a uniqueness that the song deserves. Starting out with a stark piano vocal performance, David then wrote a string and synth arrangement around the vocals to create a beautiful balance of simplicity and complexity.
