Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Brambles is inspired by memories of childhood pastimes, particularly picking blackberries with my mum, sister, and grandparents. The gentle fingerpicked guitar part provides a steady backdrop for the dreamy clarinets and trumpets that weave through the track. I was really happy to be able to include my sister on the track as one of the vocalists.

One by one we go rummaging on

“Home” is the first single from London, UK-based singer-songwriter Gareth Haze. “Home” is an acoustic folk/pop ballad that talks about coming home to someone you love even when the chaos of life and the world around us seemingly confuses and consumes us. 

Known by many as the brother and former drummer for South African singer-songwriter Mark Haze, Gareth moved to the UK in 2017 where he decided to take on the challenge of performing solo in unfamiliar territory. This experience has inspired the songs for his forthcoming album “Stranger in a Strange Land”.

Gareth recently spent time back in South Africa after his and Mark’s father passed away. During the visit the two brothers couldn’t resist working on music together, resulting in Mark featuring on “Home” as well as co-producing the track with Gareth. They have also started work on the rest of the album, which they will be co-producing across continents to create something truly special.

If you’re tasked with planning one or more playground surfaces for a children’s play area for which you have responsibility, you may not know where to start. Here’s a brief introduction to aspects you’ll need to consider.

One term you’ll see routinely when choosing playground surfaces is critical fall height. This measurement determines the impact attenuation, or thickness, of the surface that must be laid below it. If critical fall height is a consideration then it’s likely you’ll need to consider wet pour or rubber surfacing. Equally, will your playground routinely be attended by wheelchair or pushchair users? Then wet pour playground flooring is ideal. 

While artificial grass isn’t quite as impact absorbent as other alternatives, it still makes a safer addition than either real grass or concrete. It remains in a good state of repair, unlike real grass which can become slippery in wet weather. Finally, the third option is rubber mulch. It’s visually appealing and needs little in the way of maintenance.

Don’t think that you are limited to just one type of material in your play area, though. Good surfacing contractors can draw up designs with different playground surfaces being used in different areas according to usage.
