2011년 10월에 발매되었던 김일두와 하헌진의 [34:03]이 새롭게 발매되었다. 새롭게 발매된 이 앨범은 [34:03]의 2013도 버전이다. 내용이 달라진 것은 없다. 다만 하헌진의 음반을 계속 디자인하던 신덕호가 겉모양을 조금 바꾸었다. 약 2년이 지나고 이 앨범을 다시 들어보니 각각의 음악적 의미보다는 지난 2년 동안 하헌진과 김일두가 어떤 활동을 해왔었는지 떠올리게 된다.

하헌진은 2011년 GQ에서 선정한 올해의 남자 중 한 명이 되는 해프닝을 겪었다. 사진가 권부문과 함께였다. 김일두는 직장을 그만두고 ‘지니어스’의 멤버들과 미국으로 투어를 다녀왔고, 요즘에는 거의 매달 공연을 하러 서울에 오고 있다. 하헌진은 젊은 인디 음악팬의 귀에 델타 블루스라는 미지의 장르를 던진 최초의 인물로 기록되었다. 붕가붕가 레코드에서 블루스를 주제로 한 컴필레이션 앨범을 만들게 한 부정할 수 없는 원동력이었다. 김일두는 점점 무성애적으로 변해가던 한국의 포크(?) 음악씬에서 통기타를 든 한국 남성 싱어송라이터의 신파 전통을 적당히 이어받았다. 하지만 문학가스러운 잘난척없이 ‘사랑의 맞담배’와 같은 가사를 툭툭 잘도 던졌으므로 가사집이 발간되는가 하면, 인디 음악팬 뿐만 아니라 김광석의 팬까지 아우르는 유별난 대중성을 얻게 되었다.

한동안 하헌진은 ‘술탄 오브 디스코’의 드러머 김간지와 함께 공연했다. 김간지의 드럼과 하헌진의 기타가 잘 어울리는 만큼, 둘의 별 내용없는 만담도 호흡이 좋았고 결국 (또) 붕가붕가 레코드를 통해 앨범이 발매되었다. 김일두는 잠시 부산에서 기거하던 ‘씨없는 수박’ 김대중과 히피 이효리에게 곡을 주기도 한 김태춘과 함께 ‘삼김시대’라는 공연 시리즈를 기획했고, 인기를 얻어 수차례 계속 반복되었으며, EBS 스페이스 공감에도 출연하게 되었다.

그동안 하헌진은 [오]라는 EP를 내기도 하고 붕가붕가 레코드에서 진행된 두 개의 프로젝트에 가담했다. 김일두는 예전 서스펜스 시절의 음악을 엮어 [곱고 맑은 영혼]이라는 정규 1집을 발매했고, 히트곡 ‘문제없어요’를 머리에 둔 EP를 모모씨 레이블에서 냈다. ‘지니어스’를 통해 특별한 친구 둘과 홍대를 다니며 펑크를 연주하고, 꽤 다양한 공연장에서 다양한 기획으로 열린 공연에 참여했다.

이 앨범은 이 두 명의 뮤지션이 본격적인 활동을 시작하면서 남겼던 최초의 발자취이자, 노이즈 뮤지션이자 기획자인 박다함이 헬리콥터 레코즈를 운영하기 전에 만들었던 앨범이다. 수익에 연연하기 보다는 기록의 차원에서, 또는 이런 식의 음악도 2010년대의 한국에 존재하고 있다는 것을 알리기 위해 만들었을테다. 하지만 짧지 않은 2년 동안 이 두 명의 소중한 음악가가 남긴 활동의 여정은 분명히 성공적이었다고 말할 수 있을 것이다. 이런 순간에 마치 1쇄가 다 팔려 2쇄를 찍은 것처럼 찾아온 새로운 모습의 [34:03]은 반갑기 그지없다. 무엇보다 생존이 가장 중요한 현재의 가장 의미심장한 궤적 중 하나이기 때문이다.
