"Aethernal Score’’, Aisha Devi’s commission for the BBC Concert Orchestra, is an attempt to intensify the vibrational capacities of the orchestra and divert the expected course of classical-electronic collaboration. Devi has always used her art to push against cultural presumptions, so it made sense to assemble the initial framework for the piece from some of her acclaimed back catalogue, meshing it with new compositions and reworking everything with orchestral elements that follow Devi's radical metaphysical and theoretical guidelines. It's best described as a twenty-minute "mixtape" that embodies the connections between the concert hall, the club and the sacred ritual - or even a demonstration of the orchestra's hidden potential.

Inspired by her Himalayan heritage, Devi has been exploring the entrancing sonic application of monastic practices such as throat singing for many years, as well as developing psychoacoustic methods. This led her to perceive sound as a way of expanding brain activity - something that also plays a shrouded role in the world of chamber music. Applying this to the orchestra, she began thinking about each instrument as a discrete frequency range, searching for its ethereal properties rather than fixating on an object saddled with cultural baggage. Using the density, amplitude and vibrational impact of the sounds in unison, Devi was able to summon the club environment, seizing that space's inherent power - Devi was making orchestral rave.

Two versions of the score are included on the release, one orchestrated in collaboration with Robert Ames and conducted by André de Ridder, performed on October 29, 2021 with the BBC Concert Orchestra at Queen Elizabeth Hall which was commissioned by Elizabeth Alker for Unclassified Live, and the purely electronic version - the synthetic backbone of the composition. Both are very different, and listened to together highlight the transformative power of instrumentation. The result is like a purge of history and hierarchy, with tools of colonization hollowed-out and fashioned into new shapes. A clash of grandeur and sensitivity, and a live deconstruction of the artistic ego, "Aethernal Score" is transcendent re-evaluation of classical and electronic sounds that doesn't just make you think, it makes you resonate.

COSEY FANNI TUTTI announces the release of her second solo album, TUTTI, 
out on Conspiracy International on 8th February 2019.

TUTTI is comprised of eight soundscapes: an audio self portrait comprising of manipulated sound recordings from Cosey’s life, music and art: “It’s the only album I’ve made that is an all encompassing statement expressing the totality of my being. A sense of the past in relation to the present and everything in between.”

These eight pieces were originally conceived as the soundtrack to the autobiographical film ‘Harmonic Coumaction’, and performed live in February 2017, part of a series of events that accompanied the COUM Transmissions retrospective which opened Hull UK City of Culture 2017. Later that year, ‘Harmonic Coumaction’ was presented as an audio-visual installation for Cosey Fanni Tutti’s solo exhibition at Cabinet Gallery, London.

Cosey Fanni Tutti explains: “Working on the COUM Transmissions exhibition also coincided with writing my autobiography - collating archive material and re engaging with my past. My work is a continuum, the past feeding the present and vice versa. The album is an interpretation of my past and present, of my understanding the shifting perceptions of how they inform one another. One form creating another through a metamorphic process.”

On TUTTI, the music has been updated and enhanced with elements of the original tracks re-recorded and further processed specifically to create a unique stand-alone document, separate to the live performance and installation.

Recorded at Cosey Fanni Tutti’s studio in Norfolk, the album, as on her debut release, Time To Tell, merges Cosey’s art activities with her exploration of sound: The album’s autobiographical theme is not locked into any specific time or place, the ‘voices’, instruments and sounds together span decades of my life, music and art. In this context my name 'TUTTI’ shifts from its role as a noun to perfectly represent the concept of the album, also acting as sign for me the artist.

TUTTI is Cosey Fanni Tutti’s only solo album release since 1982’s Time To Tell. Time To Tell was recently given its first release on vinyl, on a long awaited official deluxe edition. The interim years between solo releases has seen a blisteringly prolific output as an artist and musician. Renowned for her art, her work in the sex industry, as co-founder of Industrial music and Throbbing Gristle, and her pioneering electronic music solo and as Chris & Cosey, Carter Tutti and Carter Tutti Void, she has created throughout with the motto “my life is my art, my art is my life”. 

Cosey’s autobiography ART SEX MUSIC was published to worldwide acclaim by Faber & Faber in 2017, a Japanese edition has just been published with further translations and an audio book to follow.

In the Netherlands some neophile named I-f was fed up with the same old techno 'movement'. This in mind he added some fairly unorthodox dimensions to this gathering, forever changing its course. With primitive electronic equipment I-f transferred sounds from the 80s to the here and now. And by chance, he landed a hit. "Space Invaders are Smoking Grass" is I-f´s entry to Electro-anthem status. Like Funk never happened. 

This is family fodder for dance crazes, for lovers of 'alternative' music, for the whole scattered techno community, as well as for the homelistener who likes to smoke a cigar when hearing 'strange' sounds on the sofa. I-f´s versatile approach to music can't be measured with just this one track. His first full length album on Disko B records proves the point. Fucking Consumer is pretty strong stuff. Electro-nix pure and clear. No nice recycled retro package. It's out of it, sails in its own universe, because it doesn't rely on others.

The overall mood is well-tempered, it seems to be playing along some sound history. Next thing you know, Fucking Consumer is exploding into bursts of noise - what a pleasure. Track by track I-f demands the attention of the listener anew. The final countdown occurs in a little gothic interlude with G.D. from L.A.'s Christian Death delivering the vocals. This Record was the start of a series of records by I-f (I-F – The Man From P.A.C.K, 1999, The Parallax Corporation – Cocadisco in 2003). There were massive records following this pioneer advance and a first clash on electro was done long before Larry T was dreaming of creating electro-clash.

The Crier's words hung heavy in the early eve. Shutters were closed and the townsfolk scattered to their homes as empty beggars' hands withdrew to the gutter leaving the once bustling crooked cobblestone streets now but a desolate spiral of gas lit flicker and elongated shadows.
