Bringing on the cold rush, seven tracks, all 3:33 long, Hajj’s sound is among the most distinctive in his field on ‘No Soul, No God, No Devil, No Existence’. Influenced by Marian Dora's 2009 film 'The Angels' Melancholia', the album is perhaps best defined by the stark negative ecstasy of its highlight ‘Drag Me Into the Void’, presenting Hajj as a master of collage-like structure, in possession of a compelling grasp of atmosphere. It stands out from much of the contemporary french music we’re aware of for its oblique rejection of club muscularity in favour of more unusual, weightless pressure and suggestively gestural arrangements. That’s not to say it’s not ripe for certain moments in the club, it just doesn’t give them readily.

Beginning like Biosphere doing dankest road rap with DJ Lostboi (anyone checked that Nedarb cut lurking on Æ’s Bandcamp purchase list yet?) in ‘Our Lady of Darkness’, he holds an immaculately dark-but-lush appeal from the K-hole nightmare of ‘Loosing U 4 Ever’ to the cosmic plangency of ‘Vox Tenebrae’, meting out discomfiting intro rap like a fantasy Croww x Ronce in ‘Heaven’s Calamity’, and like Spectre x Pan Daijing in ‘Do U Remember Bein Born’, while his ear for saliva-inducing textures comes to fruition on the voyeuristic vortex of ‘Burning Illusions’, perfectly distilling the cold rush on an original mix of the glorious ‘Drag Me Into the Void’.

Social medias are full of videos in which animals interact with humans. 
They give us a sense of temporary well-being, of comfort, or even satisfaction, a dose of serotonin. 
But all of that awakens in me a deep and very special feeling of anxiety, as I'm suddenly aware of the mass alienation of the internet-scrollers, who voluntarily and happily comply to this. 
More than that, in the background of these videos, there is always and always the same music tunes.
People rarely try to listen to new original stuff, beyond what's directly available. 
Surely, however, the popular music tunes that they use help them getting more views when combined with images full of cuteness and love.

This opus is a criticism of the backward yet abundant consumption of viral videos, of how they're part of a form of deculturation, while in the same time providing temporarily wellness and comfort to our brains.

I am a vessel. A muffled mass. A bulk. Extent. A womb. I move. So I am neither here nor there. Always somewhere in between. To give substance to this frame, I carve out a piece of me. Sometimes a shape, sometimes a form. Into this space I pour what besieges me: words, pictures, you. So we can become me. Viscosity and temperature dictate the time it takes. When it is done, I break the mold I am. I take the cast inside and place it by the others.

That is when it starts tormenting me. It gives a face to the unsaid and an empire to what I could not bury. It now has a weight and a consistency I can no longer avoid. Still eager to escape, I turn my back on it and hobble ineptly away. But the space it has left within my frame begins to throb. It flickers, moans and aches. It chars. I can sometimes ignore what's there, but I can never hide from what’s gone. So I run. (Text: Fred Aerden)
