Everyone’s favourite bangin’ Brisbane duo X CLUB. ready up four typically in your face cuts of driving, textured techno on 1Ø PILLS MATE that have us dreaming of giant warehouses and sweaty hugs. Channeling big rave energy from grime, electro and breaks - and ultimately using this influence to texture their heavy sound - the pair take inspiration from the 90’s rave movement and contemporary experimental artists.

‘Turning A Blind Eye To This Nonsense’ delivers on the escapism it promises, staying true to the driven aesthetic that the duo have become known for; sirens blaring, deep atmospherics and uncompromising rave. Fellow Australian Mutant Joe is enlisted on ‘Silo’ - an acid dipped techno-electro workout  spawned from the depths of hell. 

The record's biggest moments arrive on ‘Beta Rays’, where both the artist's interest in sound design and sonic engineering across their respective solo projects really shines across 8 minutes of cinematic rave. Managing to capture the nostalgic rave feeling that Bicep’s ‘Glue’ channelled to roaring success, X CLUB. serve up an emotionally-driven journey that is destined to dominate sound systems around the globe.

Their UK influence is felt most heavily on ‘300mpbs’ (½ of the duo, Benedict Clarke, is actually from Bristol); a gnarly cut of snarling drum & bass influenced breaks that is sure to incite a gun-finger trigger rush in the club.

For some bizarre reason, Massive Attack - I Against I ended up on the iPod Nano I got for my birthday when I was around 9 or 10. Every so often this song would come on shuffle, and it really stuck with me. In hindsight, it was probably one of the first bits of electronic music that I was regularly exposed to as a kid. Anyway, I recently came across the song on YouTube and got hit with a serious wave of nostalgia, along with the realisation this track absolutely bangs. Decided to give it the edit treatment so I could start playing it in sets, and this is the result. I've set it as a free download as thanks to everyone who's been sharing and supporting my stuff this year - really does mean a lot!

Festivus season is upon us (Seinfeld fans, you know what we’re talking about) and it seems like good tunes are snowing here at Bolting Bits HQ. The Glasgow crew behind Craigie Knowes is full speed these last months. Releasing excellent music consistently since their start in 2016 the scottishs are planning to postpone your end-of-the-year-parties until mid-january with this new release.

Meet TEXTASY, mysterious producer with two EPs already out pleasing dance music snobs this year, a certain taste for syncopated drum patterns and man of the hour with this solo EP. Following the path established by previous releases on Craigie Knowes Textasy creates hybrids consisting of experimentations with 90's rave culture and detroit electro codes.
Starting with A1, he mixes rhythms straight out of Motor City, a pairing bassline and a angelic choir coming from what must be an old digital synthesiser. Throughout the track a deep voice repeats an psalm you can only agree to: bass and techno.

A2, relevantly named Blow Your Head, is the lovechild of an old floppy disk (you know, those containing samples that were circulating in the nineties) and a subwoofer. Oscillating between a 303 bassline, pulsating pads, incomprehensible vocal samples modulated to the max and UK signature sound fx, the track tries to go everywhere and, surprisingly, it works. Let's not forget the breakbeats loop supporting the electro rhythmics. An explosive way to end the first half of the release.

Flip to the other side and you will be welcomed by Eternal Gun, a fast piece of what starts like a jungle inspired tune, switches to a UK Hardcore piano track with a slamming beat and then makes a cocktail out of those two portions for the rest of the track. Pure speed.

Last but not least, the track waiting at the end is the one we are pleased to premiere today. I'm The Needle takes a bit of the pressure left by the previous track off and offers us what is probably the most effective tune out of the bunch. Reminding you to put the needle on the record over a jungle break, the track then exhibits classic rave piano chords, the most famous (and satisfying) sample of all dance music history and an arpeggiating bassline. You will find the same weight in the kick and subs, the same electro-ish pattern hiding in there than in the rest of the record. With many of the same qualities it has the advantage of being a bit simpler, making the track more efficient and self-empowered.

You know where we’re going with this. This EP is a no-brainer and should be preordered right now.

Over the past 6 months I’ve travelled to some of the worlds biggest cities and with the greatest respect, nowhere beats the scene in Glasgow in terms of the diverse creativity happening. 

The Clyde Built compilations have documented this year after year and it's a great pleasure to work on them. Previous artists range from Cucina Povera to Hammer, Big Miz to Still House Plants, LAPS, Lo Kindre and loads more. Not to mention the many one off's and incredible projects that have formed and dissipated over the years - another exciting aspect which characterises the immediacy of the scene. 

Despite being twice the size of any of its previous successors, this year’s cast of tomorrow’s talent is no different - owing a lot to many random encounters and the community spirit as a whole for it coming together in the way it did. Life is the most effective algorithm. 

Scene stalwarts rub shoulders with the freshest of faces - turning in a solid cross section of contemporary hip hop, alongside pop edits, ambient, free jazz and plenty of cutting edge 4/4 bangers in all shapes and sizes - including political anthem of our time, MULK! Rest assured, it won’t be the last you’ll hear of this lot.

Ever since the early 90s, The Mover has set the standard for apocalyptic melodramatic techno and has been praised as one of the leading artists of Planet Core Productions. His distinct tone and memorable production expertise, causes one to leave the world behind. In 2018 he returns with „Undetected Act From The Gloom Chamber“, an album which implies all the goodness and fears he is renowned for. Eight masterpieces carrying the authentic excitement that you would expect from the Mover in a timeless fashion. Shifting between electro beats and classic old school techno patterns, the album sets a moody tone.
