There is a Mayan folktale that was recited by an old mayan man, who claimed to be sitting inside a portal at the base of the largest pyramid in the site of Uxmal. 
The story says that a long time ago, a Bruja (sorceress) used to live near Uxmal in the shadow of the tyrannical Governors’ Palace. One day, whilst collecting herbs, she found a colourful egg on the forest floor. She took the egg and laid it in the corner of her house and protected it with cloth and grasses and prayed to it every morning.

One morning whilst praying, she noticed the egg beginning to hatch. The next day when she awoke, the egg had fully cracked open and a tiny child was laying next to it.
The child was a quick learner, and already had the ability to speak, walk and write. As the years went by, the child grew older, his mind broadened, his hair thickened, but his body remained the same size. He approached the Bruja anxiously and asked why his body wasn't growing.
The Bruja told him, “there are some who measure their achievements by material gain and there are some who’s wealth exists beyond the body. Remember, you must always inspire the voices of the gods, but listen to the hearts of the people, so they too can remember.”
The child looked understandingly into the Bruja’s eyes. 

The next day, the child and the Bruja climbed the steps into the Governor’s palace, where the Governor had heard about his broad range of knowledge and so challenged him to three trials.
The first was to build the sac-bey (white road) to connect Uxmal to a nearby city. The child worryingly looked to the Bruja. “Ask him to lay the first stone and then see what happens” she said. The Governor, with much effort, placed the first stone. The child placed the next stone with hardly any effort, being aided by the secret power of the Bruja.
Furious at being upstaged, the Governor’s next trial was to ask the child to build a temple overnight, taller than any other seen on this land.
The child went back to the Bruja’s house where she consoled him by whistling until he fell asleep. The next morning the child awoke on top of the Temple of the Soothsayer, a pyramid perfectly aligned to the movements of Venus.
At this point, the Governor was losing his mind, and so thought up the third and final challenge - to break three cocoyoles over their heads. The first person to break one cocoyole would rule over all of Uxmal. 

With the secret power of the Bruja’s song, she was able to soften the cocoyoles of the child, whilst the Governor accidentally killed himself trying to prove his strength by force.
As the new Governor of Uxmal, the Bruja decided to turn her back from society. Instead she now walks an underground tunnel where she sometimes be heard whistling a magical tune to protect the serpent who guards the subterranean river systems that flow between Uxmal and the two surrounding ancient sites.

Uxmal, meaning “built three times” is a mirror into the ancient world of Indian mythology via the story of Vamana, the dwarf / child avatar of Vishnu, who met with a pious demon king who mocked Vamana and believing himself to be superior, granted him anything he desired. 
Vamana replied “I desire only the land that I can cover by taking three strides”. 
The king accepted his offer and Vamana transformed into Vishnu and grew to the size of the universe and in three strides, covered the realms of earth, heaven and aether.

After sampling him on my track Ekara Po, here is an edit of one of my favorite songs of african electronic music pioneer Francis Bebey. He is one of my heroes, a true inspiration, and his "Sanza Tristesse" is a song that can literally make me cry from melancholy and sadness. But it is at the same time a heartwarming tune calling for love and joyful memories of lost ones, a soothing song for our fragile human hearts. And it made me think, why not bring these ambivalent emotions on a dance floor, as dancing puts you in special receptive moods? I hope you will hear my love for this song, enjoy!

Ein untypisches Weihnachtsfest

Die Weihnachtszeit hat heute ihren Höhepunkt erreicht. Das Fest ist in diesem Jahr definitiv ganz anders, als es sonst so war. Der Kreis wird auf die engsten Familienmitglieder beschränkt und innerhalb der heimischen Vierwände, sich beschenkt. So manche Tradition wird diese Weihnachten gebrochen, so haben die Kirchen und Gebetshäuser kollektiv geschlossen. Vieles läuft an diesem Heiligabend ungewöhnlich ab, doch so manches bleibt auch altvertraut. Geschenke laden unterm Baum, und auf den Weihnachtsumtrunk verzichten die Meisten, wohl kaum. Es wird gut gegessen und viel gelacht, irgendwie wird aus eigenartig, dann doch passend gemacht. Man nennt Weihnachten nicht umsonst Zeit der Besinnlichkeit, also lasst uns dankbar sein für Familie, Freunde, Wohlstand und Gesundheit.

Der heutige Podcast ist eine Weihnachts-Spezialausgabe bereitgestellt und gemixt von Käpt‘n 12 & Düsentrieb.
