Kryshe - 'Into a Dream'

AIRTH is the result of a 15-year friendship between electronic downtempo composer Jumpel / Cologne and Tel Aviv-based Adi Goldstein, an innovative composer and musician. From the beginning, the relationship between Adi and Jumpel was a fusion of creative minds and cultures. Their dynamic partnership fostered a shared passion for pushing the boundaries of music and transcending borders and backgrounds. Then, in 2024, they decided to take a new step and embarked on a creative journey: an album that would fuse their unique styles into a seamless ambient electro and experimental experience. Over the course of a month, they put their hearts and souls into creating eleven tracks despite the distance. Each track reflects their individual artistry and the wonderful synergy of their collaboration.
AIRTH is more than just a collection of tracks. It is a story about overcoming geographical, cultural and historical boundaries through a shared artistic vision using the universal language of music. Jumpel’s experimental ethos from Cologne and Adi’s rhythm from Tel Aviv merge into a unique tapestry of sound that captures the essence of both worlds.

Jumpel & Adi Goldstein - Mock State

‘Aching for Sleep’ is the perfect introduction to the music of Low Point High. The track is steeped in lush, hypnagogic aural imagery that will appeal to anyone with an interest in the seminal Warp roster as it traverses it’s five minute runtime. Hazy ambient tones merge with synth-strings and found sounds as the shifting beat pulls everything inexorably forward. The song’s micro and macro call- and- response teases answers, but instead leaves the listener with an uneasy sense of unquenchable longing.

From the found sound, ground-up provenance of lockdown-era extended three-piece jams canvassing psych, drone, dub, motorik and acid in equal measures in the leafy depths of the Perth Hills comes Monotonic’s eight-track swizzled cocktail of sonic poetry, Heavy Metal. If unfamiliar melody betokens the accumulation of the past, the past is always present and the future is always now, Heavy Metal is future retro recherché, time’s livid final flame.

Biography
Monotonic brings together three musicians from a golden era of Perth music. In the mid-90s Ammonia, Header and Yummy Fur made their mark on the alt-nation of the time with high rotation triple j airplay, appearances on ABC-TV’s Saturday morning show Recovery and exhaustive east coast and overseas touring. Alan Balmont (drums), Jack Lucas (guitar) and Liam Coffey (vocals, bass) spent 2024 putting together the suite of songs that would end up as Monotonic’s debut album, Heavy Metal — a cocktail of sonic poetry and melodic sensibility, and a heady melange of such disparate influences as Acid Rock, early 70s Dub and Psychedelic Motorik-Drone revival. But definitely not Heavy Metal.

Debut single from Perth-based psych prog-pop trio, The Chantic. The track is lifted from their debut EP, "The Fate of the Singer", due out in 2026.

The Chantic began when long-time musical collaborators Harry Swain and Stu Medley were joined by Craig Hallsworth, who brought lyrics and vocal parts to their instrumental compositions. Initially a recording project where members worked remotely from each other, The Chantic have evolved into a live act where Stu on guitar and synthesizer, Harry on bass and synthesizer and Craig on vocals and guitar perform to backing tracks featuring drums and percussion, additional musical accompaniment and atmospheric sounds. 

The result is a rhythmically and harmonically nuanced space or dimension (The Chantic) out of which emerges the song: the embodiment and affirmation of a liminal existence. Each is only a song, with its own version of radical holiness. And it’s catchy, too.

Medard Fischer - Monument (Slow Dancing Society remix)

Taken from Apricot Rail's 2009 self-titled debut album. 

Apricot Rail produce some of the most discretely charming, lush instrumental pop music you’re likely to hear all year. Delicate, bell-like arpeggiated guitars weave around snaking clarinet and flute, while the beautifully held back yet sanguine rhythm section drives the whole thing into a blurred, sun-soaked horizon.

Their debut album features the wonderfully received single ‘Pouring Milk Out The Window’, an anthem without ever having to be anthemic, a melancholic reverie that never resorts to the emotional ease of sadness. ‘If You Can’t Join Them, Beat Them’, which featured on the 2009 Spunk Singles Club compilation album, is another chiming standout. And gorgeous closing track ‘Halfway House’ weaves in bubbling electronics as the band lead the listener through glowing landscapes and light-drenched vistas.

Following hot on the heels of the reissue of his acclaimed debut album "The Sound of Lights When Dim", Drew Sullivan presents "Lilac Lullabies", the first in a series of four new Slow Dancing Society EPs, lovingly mastered by Taylor Deupree. Each of the EPs will be released digitally, one per month from June to September 2017, with the four EPs released collectively on double vinyl later in the year.
 
"Lilac Lullabies" is a concise, five-song serving of SDS’s sensual, free-flowing ambient. It revisits the atmospheric feel of earlier albums "The Sound of Lights When Dim", "The Slow and Steady Winter" and "Priest Lake Circa ’88", with a delicious sense of space and restraint. Centrepiece ‘A Quiet Storm’ reaches heavenwards with its Gilmour-esque guitar lines, while ‘Before We Wake’ is a meditation on weightlessness, with gently pulsing bass and an ephemeral shroud of synth. And ‘The Dusty Morning Light’ brings the EP to a reflective close with its beautifully wistful Mellotron line.
 
Slow Dancing Society is Washington-based producer and musician Drew Sullivan, who has released 7 albums on Hidden Shoal over the last 11 years. As with Brian Eno’s finest moments and David Sylvian’s ambient explorations, Slow Dancing Society’s music manages to dissolve its temporal markers and speak about moments removed from time. It talks to the delicious flaws of memory and feeling whilst never sullying itself with literality or simple documentation.

Continuing Drew Sullivan’s nocturnal explorations, The Torchlight Parade takes a smouldering instrumental palette and sparks it to life with gorgeous slo-mo guitar, pulsating synth bass and sparse beatwork. While SDS’s discography is best described as immersive, The Torchlight Parade feels submersive, pulling the listener into an instrumental soundworld with a genuine depth and distinct sense of place. All of the song titles on The Torchlight Parade refer to actual roads or places in Sullivan’s home town of Spokane, Washington, mapping out a deeply personal musical psychogeography. A spiritual successor to 2012’s Laterna Magica, the album extends its cinematic intentions through vividly filmic narratives, presenting an incredibly cohesive whole.

Slow Dancing Society - East Sprague

Taken from new album On by German experimental ambient artist Markus Mehr, the second part of a triptych that also includes recent release In and the forthcoming Off.

On is a continuation of the experimental direction of Markus Mehr’s previous releases, with eight diverse tracks employing samples, field recordings and slathers of Mehr’s trademark distorted drones. This approach is apparent right from opener ‘Gonna Make You Mine’, as scything slashes of sound leap from the speakers. Single ‘Flaming Youth’ counterbalances fragments of static against a gorgeous sleepy-eyed loop of mangled lounge-jazz. A track as expansive and moving as ‘Duck Became Swan’ is followed by brief rhythmic piece ‘Olympia’. This tightrope walk between dizzying samples and exacting digital manipulation is walked with aplomb throughout On’s adventurous and thrilling 45-minute runtime.

On is preceded by In, the first part of the triptych, which comprises two monumental tracks, ‘Komo’ and ‘Ostinato’, each of which clocks in at around 25 minutes, circling around and building upon hypnotic instrumental motifs. The final part of the triptych, Off, released on 24 January 2013, includes the most epic piece yet, ‘Transit’, which clocks in at 49 minutes and will be performed live in collaboration with video artist Stefanie Sixt, who created the video to Mehr’s single ‘Cousteau’.

For By any other name, Hidden Shoal invited a number of emerging Perth artists to rework a selection of tracks from the label’s catalogue. With 11 artists reimagining tracks by Target Archery, Erik Nilsson, Glanko & Daniel Bailey, Summon the Birds, Chloe March and Isophene, what’s most striking about By any other name is both the expansive nature of the individual tracks, and the cohesiveness of the overall listening experience.

By any other name features remixes by Boy In Nature, Austy, Alexi, Michael Tyrie, Sue Summers, Ryan Jose, Daniel Zinetti, Crier, Cron, Shane Isard and JW. Boy In Nature infuses the languid tones of Target Archery’s ‘Opium Den’ with an effervescent buoyancy. On Michael Tyrie’s reimagining of Summon the Birds’ ‘Tactile Hallucination’, the structure of the song is inverted, with the epic climax acting as a cinematic scene-setter. Cron’s re-envisioning of Glanko & Bailey’s ambient masterpiece ‘Adiaphora’ injects the original with urgency without losing its sense of grandeur. And Daniel Zinetti’s brilliant deconstruction of Chloe March’s ‘Old Tre Mon Coeur’ breaks the original into a thousand pieces and then ejects them into space.

On ‘Blue Ceiling’, Joe Dürbeck continues his breathtaking collaboration with Chloë March (who contributed vocals to the 2010 single, ‘Edinburgh’). ‘Blue Ceiling’ has an utterly heartbreaking drift, its pellucid atmosphere like winter sunlight refracting through raindrops on a window pane.  

Jumpel’s new album "Bloc4" centres around the elevated yet lonely world of a tower block, each track poetically investigating its multi-faceted elements and spaces. The songs were written throughout 2012, with ideas collated, reviewed, developed and remixed. Following the wonderful results of his collaboration with Chloë March on "Europa" single ‘Edinburgh’, Joe Dürbeck presented the ideas for "Bloc4" to March and invited her to select tracks and develop vocal ideas. The results are stunning – and offer a perfect counterbalance to the more melancholic, spacious instrumental pieces.

'Sigh of Floes' is the first single from "Solace", the forthcoming second album by American neoclassical minimal ambient artist Memorybell. "Solace" will see release on the 2nd of October 2020. Taking inspiration from moments of repose, Solace sees Memorybell expand upon the pockets of stillness introduced in Obsolete and enlarge them until one can become lost. Solace explores the kinds of natural phenomena that can calm an anxious mind, such as watching an orange sunrise over snow or sitting alone in a quiet forest. These moments of inspiration provide the core of each song, with a few seconds transformed into expansive meditations.

The mechanics of creating the album mimic the ideas that inspired it. In late 2016, Outerbridge began building a modular synthesizer that became the source instrument, alongside piano. Notes are sustained and re-shaped into resonant tones effacing their initial impulses. Piano phrases bounce between filters and echo into themselves; arpeggiated strings become mist; one thought dissolves into many. This scattering of focus creates a blanket of sound, a feeling that there is nowhere to look but everywhere.
