Hidden Agenda Mixtape #111 - Evan Magee

No summary of New York City’s dance music history would be complete without Nicky Siano. As the owner and resident DJ at the Gallery, Nicky was electrified by a visit to the Loft and became hooked on New York’s emerging club culture of the ’70s. 

As a DJ, Siano pioneered techniques such as beatmatching, EQing, and using three turntables, creating the proto-disco sound via his preferred funky soul and R&B records. Leading the way for a host of legendary figures like Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles, or Grace Jones, and Loleatta Holloway, Siano laid down the blueprint for iconic New York clubs like The Garage and Studio 54. He also worked in the studio with Arthur Russell  and after a hiatus returned to DJing in 1996.

Digging through our archives and we found this Nicky Siano mix recorded in the Button Factory in 2009. It was a very special night.

PAT HYLAND delivers the latest Hidden Agenda mixtape

Highly regarded as one of the originators and pioneers of the Dublin house and techno scene. Alongside his friends and collegues he helped build and named The Asylum dance club on Sackville Place that ran after-hours until 8am every weekend from late 1991 until 1994.

Hyland also held a long-term residency at Sides, and he was a regular guest at clubs such as G1, Groucho's, the Olympic and the Ormond Centre.
