From the Archives is a series focused on the appreciation of times past, where we will be sharing a range of never before heard recordings from the 90s and 00s.

For our first instalment we welcome one of Ireland’s best and most prestigious DJ’s who has a history of playing techno for 30 years, Jon Hussey. He has been so kind to share a mix recording of his from 2005.

Words from Jon Hussey - 

“Around that time I was playing frequently in Slovakia and it includes some killer Slovak tracks from that era with artists like Loktibrada, Rumenige and Takaaki Itoh who was based in Bratislava during that time featuring. The mix also contains tracks from the Birmingham / UK side which was very closely linked in sound and ethos with artists like Regis, Surgeon, Mark Broom and New Yorks Birmingham connection Function!

It was a truly brilliant time for heavier broken rhythm Techno and definitely a golden time in the Slovak Techno history, amazing to be involved and part of the experience there and hopefully captures some of the energy and vibes from then which has also heavily influenced what is happening today with Rhythmic Techno.”

From the Archives is a series focused on the appreciation of times past, where we will be sharing a range of never before heard recordings from the 90s and 00s.

For the second instalment of the series we welcome yet another artist who is no stranger to the Irish nightlife scene, Tr One. He has been so kind to share his live recording from the Twister Pepper dating back to 2009.

Words from Tr One -

"Prior to making music as Tr One, Dean Feeney and I used to DJ under the name Broken Audio Movement where as Carlow based teenagers we played our first gigs across the South East and in Dublin. 

Around 2007 we released our first record as Tr One and started developing a sound heavily influenced by Detroit and Dublin but when DJing could not help but find our away across genres from techno all the way to disco. We were in our very early 20’s and developed a friendship and relationship with a lot of DJs, producers and promoters across Dublin in this period and started playing regularly across the city for Bodytonic, Lunar Disko and more including this show in April 2009 for Electric City in The Twisted Pepper.

I can still remember this night vividly and the excitement in playing deeper, driving and more esoteric cuts in that environment and this changed something within me as a young DJ. At that time TP was by the far the best club I played in and at that time the best sounding club in the country. Thinking back it was hugely important for my generation of DJs and Dancers across Dublin. 

Fast forward 15 (!) years and Tr One is a solo operation but it’s nights like this and the imprint made on me that still keeps that fire burning. I hope you enjoy listening back!"

"Around the time this set was recorded I was 25 and deeply entrenched in the international club scene since about 5 years, touring both Europe and North/South America by myself and with our project Headroom. While others were diving into the hard-hitting "schranz" sound, I stuck to my guns blending harder techno with tribal grooves in all my sets. This recording represents that phase of my journey in techno music. Happy listening!"

He has made a name for himself in the Dublin underground scene with exciting DJ sets and his weekly 'Saturday Selections' on his Instagram account. After honing his craft and building an impressive collection of records while living in Berlin, playing in clubs like Suicide Club, QS1, Anomalie, and Oxi. 

—•For this mix, DJ Optik took a slightly different approach. While preparing for a set with a clubby feel, he aimed to keep it fun and accessible for everyone. With a blend of classics, hidden gems, and newer tracks—ones he usually shies away from—it all came together quickly as he pulled out records from his collection. This seamless fusion of sounds brings a fresh and dynamic energy to this set.

From our debut set together for Vault Sessions at Radion earlier this year as part of their 24hr collaboration with Bassiani. We played around lunch time and decided to go more housey to give the dance floor a boost in energy after being hammered with techno for the past 18hrs.
