Having some fun in The Lab Brushing the dust off a gorgeous 1969 Solartron JM1861 Pseudo Random Signal Generator... 

Made by blending a few layers of a lab sine oscillator being modulated by the weighted analog output of the 1861 at various probability distributions and clocking rates along with layers of various raw digital sequences fed through the built in low pass filter at various settings.  Recorded hot onto my much loved 1967 Mk III Revox G36 tube half-track 1/4" tape machine.

...and no, the noise isn't tape hiss.. :-]

1969 Solartron JM1861:  A Journey Into The Random...

enmossed is pleased to present 𝑬𝑵𝑴𝑺, a new cassette series curated by artist and perfumer Daisy Paradise, Florian T M Zeisig, and Glyn Maier. Releases consist of pairing an artist’s album with a plant of their choice and feature an interview - spoken or written - connected to the chosen plant. RJM Vanderheyden realized the series design beautifully with UV-etched, and color-matched cassettes and cases made from recycled materials, drawing upon a collection of rare botanical illustrations.

In the works for over a year, we are delighted to debut the first album of the series from long-time enmossed associate Chaperone - 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄, paired with chamomile and a chat between Daisy Paradise and Suzanne Belle Stone of Moon of Hyldemoer Herbals.

“Daisy Paradise tells us that when a plant is taken out of its comfort zone, its growth adapts to new and challenging conditions. Its properties change: they incorporate the difficulty and beauty of its foreign surroundings. Chaperone trawls the dusty grooves of bossa nova LPs, extracting forgotten melodies and re-contextualizing them into an indeterminate industrial churn. A boscagic echo rendered into a miniature plastic flower, partially submerged in a puddle alongside crumbling asphalt.

Suzanne Belle Stone reminds us that, while we obsess over the rare, we fail to honor and celebrate the gifts of the common - that’s why we tend to undermine the strength and the subtlety of the ever-present chamomile. Chaperone repeats a sound, looping it, making it common. An abundance of multiplicities that create a new temporality, helping us quiet our mind. Chamomile is quiet, chamomile listens. A flower that likes to grow in large groups, in community, surrounded by its own repetitions.

𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄 is a dense hive of loops spreading their subtleties and becoming common through the air, a rooting system weaving an all-enveloping sea of electric dust under which we listen, as in a dream, to the static effervescence of a swarm of chamomile seeds. Each of these seeds contains a tiny sun and a tiny moon. Plants come to you when you need them.”

David Coccagna (Chaperone) is a Queens-based writer and musician focusing primarily on transgressive human behavior, poverty, class division, and addiction. Born and raised in Philadelphia, the principle imagery and sonic influences of the depressed Northeast neighborhood Lawncrest has served as the palette and canvas Coccagna works upon. He has released worked with labels Great Circles, Jungle Gym, Con.apt, and Minor Adjustments, with more recent focuses leaning into repetitive sound and theme. He is an avid cyclist and has two cats.

Chaperone - A Puddle With No Origin (ENMS-01)

A rough hardware jam. I'm spending some long overdue time with the cirklon after working on a video game and finding paying work. The cirklon is endlessly interesting, there are so many workflows to discover and features to explore. I keep falling deeper into the rabbit holes. Launching clips with MD took a little head scratching and I can't sort out whether to I want to move drum sequencing to the cirklon. The elektron workflow is so damn good on the native hardware, despite all the power of the cirklon. I sort of fantasize about the more elektron-like p-lock UX for the cirklon which feels blasphemous to say. Cheers and kisses. 

Hardware: Korg Monologue, Ensoniq EPS, Moog Mother-32, Elektron MachineDrum, Sequentix Cirklon, Roland JV-1080. 
Software: Bit of multi-band compression and top-end spatializing in Ableton before the final bounce.

From Greystar ... "Aphex Twin's seminal work, Selected Ambient Works 85-92, came out 32 years ago today.

This is a passion project commemorating this great work. Over 40 artists have come together to put forth their unique versions, remixes, covers, reworks, and recreations of these tracks!

This project has a bit of history. It has been in the works since before 2016.

Before this Bandcamp page existed, I was involved in a few "Aphex Twin Tribute compilations" organized on the /r/aphextwin subreddit. Eventually, folks decided to tackle covering the entirety of Selected Ambient Works 85-92. This culminated in "Selected Ambient Covers 2016", a soundcloud-exclusive release that fell short of its lofty goal: not all tracks were covered, and some of the tracks were unfinished. Since then, I've led projects covering Selected Ambient Works Vol. II, ...I Care Because You Do, and Drukqs, among others, all seemingly more ambitious than the last! Having met so many new talented artists from all of these projects, it felt like the right time to return to SAW85-92 and do it justice.

Anyways, I'm a bit tired, I might write more here later ... there's a few tracks missing from CD #2, marked as "[COMING SOON]". They'll be ready in time for the physical CD, but needed a lil extra time to be finished before this digital release. They'll be added here in post, so keep an eye out! Follow this page if you want to be notified of when they're added. I heard a snippet of WHRK's Hedphelym Remix and it's very very good, you won't wanna miss it.

This is a recording of a live solo performance on clarinet and soprano saxophone at the City Kirche in Koblenz, Germany on 27. March 2015. I played to a six-channel sound installation of my electroacoustic work that had been on all day. Free improvised music is what I'm up to these days, mostly solo, mostly soprano, and I'm beginning to record in places that offer interesting acoustics. The City Church does not have interesting, but fantastic acoustics, and the installation / performance project will be documented as an album on my label trente oiseaux.

I have been working round the clock for weeks now on my dinky little 8-bit 4-Voice (4 x [2osc+1sub+LFO]) VA Poly Expander with 1960's style transformer-mixed output voicing and finally No's.000 thru 010 are born to the world and receiving very positive feedback from their new owners....... this 4-voice polysynth measuring just 16x12x3cm has full real-time control over her 32 parameters via simple midi ccs and 16 built-in patches. 

Based on an expanded form of a customized software synth-core design by ISGK in Japan, I think the Elfin-04's unique voice ouput/mixing transformers do add something for sure - they are driven full-swing with 60KHz PWM resulting in a lot of additional harmonics/mirror frequencies and some saturation that all gets trapped within the transformers which adds a richness/darkness to the sound (no-doubt inspired in part by my beloved DK Synergy). In the Elfin-04, the 4 voices are passively mixed but, unusually, by the topology of the output-transformers themselves which is a trick that used to be found in some more exotic 1960s valve test equipment where multiple signal outputs were mixed on isolated outputs (eg. my huge old Panoramic TTG-2 tube Dual Sinewave Generator). Also, each voice CPU is independently clocked so everything is genuinely free-wheeling across the voices so even the noise phases slowly when played on multiple notes and unison which is pretty cool.

Emerging from Czechia and Austria, phonon records return with their fourth transmission 'RESi' - this time dialling into the disrupted consciousness of Linz-based waveform saboteur, Sturmherta...The apex of this nonlinear journey arrives with Track 5, 'Rv' - a full-throttle warehouse exorcism that spits liquid metal from the subs and sculpts siren calls from microphone-feedback interludes. It’s a chaotic opera of post-club dramaturgy, where trap’s rattling percussion meets the oil-slick throb of industrial bass. Think Slikback tangled in a resonant hallucination, lit only by the glow of firewall breaches and strobes.

D.A.Wilson is an Electronic Engineer, Sound Designer & Vintage Synth Specialist with a particular interest in combining vintage tube, classic analog and modern digital technologies working as a synth engineer looking after a very considerable amount of vintage studio equipment for Will Gregory (Goldfrapp / Moog Ensemble) and a number of other internationally celebrated electronic musicians and producers.  Having undertaken several major restorations and produced custom electronic designs for a number of major artists including Jean-Michel Jarre, Dani is also known for fully restoring two out of the world's four remaining 1979 Crumar GDS and partially restoring 1938 Novachord 346 (the only known operational Novachord in the UK) to playable order along with developing and producing the new Elfin family of 8-bit polysynths and the popular MIDI Front Panel Animator (FPA), Filter Defeat Module (FDM) and XD-280 Drive Emulator upgrades for the AKAI S612 sampler.
