Forgetting My Life One Day at a Time

From Greystar ... "Aphex Twin's seminal work, Selected Ambient Works 85-92, came out 32 years ago today.

This is a passion project commemorating this great work. Over 40 artists have come together to put forth their unique versions, remixes, covers, reworks, and recreations of these tracks!

This project has a bit of history. It has been in the works since before 2016.

Before this Bandcamp page existed, I was involved in a few "Aphex Twin Tribute compilations" organized on the /r/aphextwin subreddit. Eventually, folks decided to tackle covering the entirety of Selected Ambient Works 85-92. This culminated in "Selected Ambient Covers 2016", a soundcloud-exclusive release that fell short of its lofty goal: not all tracks were covered, and some of the tracks were unfinished. Since then, I've led projects covering Selected Ambient Works Vol. II, ...I Care Because You Do, and Drukqs, among others, all seemingly more ambitious than the last! Having met so many new talented artists from all of these projects, it felt like the right time to return to SAW85-92 and do it justice.

Anyways, I'm a bit tired, I might write more here later ... there's a few tracks missing from CD #2, marked as "[COMING SOON]". They'll be ready in time for the physical CD, but needed a lil extra time to be finished before this digital release. They'll be added here in post, so keep an eye out! Follow this page if you want to be notified of when they're added. I heard a snippet of WHRK's Hedphelym Remix and it's very very good, you won't wanna miss it.

"Still Forms in Air" is the debut album by Italian composer Francesca Marongiu under her own name. It draws inspiration from mid-1980s Japanese ambient music — Hiroshi Yoshimura, Satoshi Ashikawa, Takashi Kokubo — and, more subtly, from Italian experimental echoes rooted in both personal and cultural memory.

The album unfolds like suspended time, like architecture that quietly bears witness to the shifts that have shaped our cities and the ways we live in them. These tracks reflect an emotional and urban landscape, shaped by a gaze cast upon the mid-1980s and early ’90s — a time of subtle yet lasting changes in the form and meaning of shared space. That period marked a delicate turning point, later described as les années d’hiver: the slow onset of fragmentation beneath a surface of creative openness.

"Still Forms in Air" doesn’t dwell in nostalgia (though it draws from it), but reimagines that duality through a contemporary lens. Its sound blends memory and presence, layering ambient textures with a refined spatial sensitivity. It is a dialogue across decades — clear-eyed, affectionate, and quietly luminous.


Written, arranged and recorded by Francesca Marongiu in Rome and Pistoia between May 2024 and March 2025. Francesca Marongiu: electronics, synthesizers, vocals, sound objects. A Dome Under The Pines

A segue of recordings played back at normal, twice and half speed of the sound of laser light being modulated by plumes of dust kicked up by dropping nuts and bolts into dry icing sugar in a large glass jar. The optical mic was positioned on the far side of the jar and sometimes you can just make out the glass walls pinging as the bolts land on the bottom of the jar.

The slowly building up vortex was made by swirling the icing sugar and then playing back the resulting return to still  air in reverse.

Rather like the oil in water and electrolysis experiments, since it all takes time to disperse, you get a kind of natural decay tail effect.

D.A.Wilson is an Electronic Engineer, Sound Designer & Vintage Synth Specialist with a particular interest in combining vintage tube, classic analog and modern digital technologies working as a synth engineer looking after a very considerable amount of vintage studio equipment for Will Gregory (Goldfrapp / Moog Ensemble) and a number of other internationally celebrated electronic musicians and producers.  Having undertaken several major restorations and produced custom electronic designs for a number of major artists including Jean-Michel Jarre, Dani is also known for fully restoring two out of the world's four remaining 1979 Crumar GDS and partially restoring 1938 Novachord 346 (the only known operational Novachord in the UK) to playable order along with developing and producing the new Elfin family of 8-bit polysynths and the popular MIDI Front Panel Animator (FPA), Filter Defeat Module (FDM) and XD-280 Drive Emulator upgrades for the AKAI S612 sampler.
