I’ve moved, I’ve changed, I’ve left pieces of myself scattered in places I’ll never see again — all just to keep my head above water. People think I’m playing. They don’t see the salt in my eyes or the weight pulling at my chest. They don’t hear the conversations that replay in my head long after they’ve stopped talking.
I’ve given everything just to be here, to hold my ground. And still, I’m hit again. Wave after wave after wave.
You tell me I’m jealous — but of what? The noise? The empty victories? The comfort of staying still while I fight to keep moving? Write the list down for me. Let me read it back to you in the quiet and watch your words start to mean something you didn’t intend.

Maria durch ein Dornwald ging is a German-language Advent song from the Eichsfeld region, which was first published in 1850 and whose melody possibly dates back to the 16th century.
The oldest known version with seven verses was printed in 1850 in the collection "Geistliche Volkslieder mit ihren historischen Weisen" by August von Haxthausen and Dietrich Bocholtz-Asseburg; the actual date of the song's creation is unclear, and an occasional dating to the 16th century cannot be verified. However, in the Andernach hymnal of 1608, the song "Jesum und seine Mutter zahrt" is printed with the note "to the melody Maria went through this forest," which has occasionally been suggested as the nucleus of the Advent song.
