BIO:
Foreign es el pseudónimo que utiliza Miguel Vázquez para desarrollar sets de sonidos IDM, avant-techno y electro, combinando en ellos la suavidad y eficacia de melodías transparentes con paisajes abstractos y ambientes densos cargados de complejas estructuras polirrítmicas.

Tras varios años iniciales pinchando en pequeñas salas de su localidad, donde el trance y el techno formaban el sonido más destacado en sus sets, es a mediados del año 2001 cuando Miguel crea Silverside Collective junto a Iván Marín con el objetivo de investigar y promover la parte más experimental de la música electrónica.

Al mismo tiempo es cuando comienza a trabajar en la reconocida tienda de discos Recycled Music Center en Madrid, regentada por Yke. Este periodo durará varios años y supondrá para él un profundo y notable aprendizaje dentro de todos los estilos de la música electrónica.

A lo largo de estos años Foreign ha pinchado en varios eventos de Hard Taste, A.I. Series y en clubs como NAO, Dub Club, Specka, Graffiti, Shagü Club, etc..

En 2022 crea su propio sello, Mutoscope Records, orientado al sonido IDM en su mayoría. Actualmente el sello es un punto de encuentro para todos los artistas de dicho sonido y trabaja en sus siguientes referencias que serán publicadas próximamente.

Which artist has influenced you the most?

- Too many to mention, I get loads of inspiration from a lot of people of different genres of music, be it electronic or rock/guitar music/classical. For electronic, I would ultimately say my biggest influence/inspiration would be Richard.D.James. He's just fearless and totally true to himself and his sound, immensely talented individual. His music has got me through so much in my life and I am eternally indebted. I think my music has alot of the spirit of what he's doing but hopefully it's not plagiarized or a ripoff, I think I've found my own sound over the years.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I have a new album coming out late feb/march on Anil Lal's Altered Sense label, it's a double with alot of breakbeat and early 90s UK Hardcore spirit. There is also a split ep I have coming out with InkiPak (Jon) on Wavefunction which will be great to put out. Also a follow up ep on 030303 to my 'Polysynthesis' ep I had out with them. There may also be further material coming out on Furthur Electronix at some point, currently just archiving/stockpiling new material for that.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- Mainly the ones I've released on, kindred spirits and a huge influence on me. Different people on different labels, but they are all wonderful, cool people who are easy to get along with 030303, Furthur Electronix, Brokntoys, La Beauté Du Négatif, Withhold etc. All wicked labels with so much talent on them.
Special shout out and respect to Mateo, Anwar, Anil Lal, Steijn, Neil Fulcrum 4. The list is too long to write here.

What inspires you now to create music?

- Can be anything, art, music, film, literature, being alive and living in the current. Knowing that without my music I would have nothing. It's easy to stay motivated if music is all you have.

For the next live set in our new series for @darkscienceelectro we travel to the Belgian capital of Brussels for a recorded performance by @Datawave – Influenced by local radio shows and well-organized series of underground parties in Belgium, Gaetan, then 17, quickly became an Electro enthusiast. In 2002 he started deejaying and shortly thereafter began composing his own sounds under the moniker @Datawave in 2010. The now 34 year old producer mainly uses Ableton, Reason and a Bass Station 2 to produce the music you will hear in this live set. Gaeten has since gained support from DJ’s like @dave-clarke-dj-sets, @dvsnme, @jensen-interceptor, @umek and others. In additional, he has shared the stage with the likes of @manasyt, @cosmicforce and RA-X. On a personal note, I have loved the music of @Datawave since stumbling on his Soundcloud account in early 2017 and am very excited to share this with you. His music draws on the sounds of Carl Finlow, @Anthony-Rother, Drexciya and Kraftwerk while still managing to build on the sound. This special live set was prepared exclusively for the @darkscienceelectro Live Set series and I hope you all enjoy the music of this future master just as much as I do.
