2021 has been YANA Music's busiest and biggest year to date without question. First set up in 2019 by UK Dancefloor producer Toronto Is Broken as an output to release solely his own work after parting ways with Viper Recordings has blossomed into something so much more. This year alone had 1.7million streams across 22 releases from 27 different artists, including the original release of Toronto Is Broken's third album "Clare", kickstarting the metal / DnB crossover sound we associate him with now.
You Are Not Alone Music, or "YANA Music" for short, truly lives up to it's name, building a solid family of artists showcasing the wide spectrum of Dancefloor Drum & Bass. Continuing our favourite habit of breaking new artists, next up on Lifestyle Music comes a couple of tracks from Austrian newcomer Halflow. We first focused our ears on Niki after he sent a few links over through our demo platform, and stalking his soundcloud revealed some seriously promising talent! Hailing from the same town as Mefjus, where there's clearly something in the water, Halflow has some mid-range & bass techniques that are reminiscent of the neuro wizard himself, and come out swinging on this release. We are stoked to put out his debut release into the ether, and have already seen the reaction on the dancefloor. A young lad with a promising future in the scene, make sure to catch him here on Lifestyle first!

First up is Relentless Funk, a track built around a driving organic-sounding drum break. A long intro builds the tension before the drop brings the heat with a simple but effective filtered bassline, the envelope slowly opening to form the main hook. A powerful moving sub provides the weight of the tune, and combines raw, somewhat old school drum sounds with modern bass & mid sound design flawlessly. The name is fitting as the funk keeps bringing it, a perfect mid-set kinda track to keep the energy high and moving in the room.

Halflow teams up with fellow Austrian Screamarts (who recently featured on our free download series) for the flip, Space Gang. This one sets the tone slightly darker, tenser. A more atmospheric and Sci-Fi sounding intro kick it off, before dropping into a much bouncier neurofunk stepper. Complex sound design is executed perfectly, with warping reeses and super crisp tops and mids, all slotting together superbly above a powerful sub. Very much a dancefloor track, the bass rhythms are guaranteed to move any crowd, especially on the second drop when it's kicked up a notch with some super heavy bass stabs and rhythms. Absolute weapon for your sets and sure to cause carnage, this collab between these two young Austrians doesn't disappoint!

A very strong debut release from Halflow that's sure to turn some heads in the scene, and no doubt the start of something very special!

Halflow - Relentless Funk

This is a collaboration that was bound to happen. Both No Concept and Mad Hed City have been carving uncompromisingly original paths through bass-heavy music, and it was inevitable their scenic routes through genres and sub-genres would eventually intersect. 'Rebel Anthem' catches all the artists involved at absolutely prime-time, coming together to deliver a piece of work that flexes their powers to maximum effect.

From the confident restraint of the fade-in, this tune has got wheel-up written all over it. Intensifying vocals are deployed perfectly to add fist-in-the-air inspiration to the rising arc that leads to the drop, giving us a forty-eight bar intro that creative deejays all over are going to find a place for, both in the blend and run from the edge.

The electrical storm of a bassline that explodes onto the scene leads the way, modulating through timbres and bending across pitches as No Concept and Mad Hed City stamp their authority on the track. Deftly-programmed fills, a punchy roll-out drum pattern and sing-along vocal motifs complete the picture and make this a powerful weapon for selectors.

It's a bold move to put 'anthem' in the name of your track, but No Concept and Mad Hed City have lived up to the promise and delivered exactly that. 'Rebel Anthem' hits hard.
