Today’s Guests are Ashley Kingsley and Aliza Sherman of Ellementa. Ellementa is an organization with over 45 chapters that creates safe spaces for women to learn about cannabis and seeks to connect consumers with brands. 

Ellementa is conducting ongoing surveys of female cannabis consumers and how they approach cannabis as laws continue to evolve and work with cannabis companies to help them better address women’s unique health and wellness needs and interests around cannabis and CBD.

In this episode, Gill spoke with the women about their unique and close partnership, building and working within remote teams, Aliza’s upcoming talk at South x Southwest during the Cannabusiness track and how grassroots efforts to educate women are paying off. 

Aliza Sherman is a web pioneer who founded the first woman-owned Internet company, Cybergrrl, Inc., and the first organization for women to learn about the Internet in the 90s, Webgrrls International. She is the author of 12 books including Cannabis and CBD for Health and Wellness: An Essential Guide for Using Nature’s Medicine to Relieve Stress, Anxiety, Chronic Pain, Inflammation, and More, The Happy, Healthy Nonprofit and Social Media Engagement for Dummies. Her work has been featured in USA Today, Newsweek, Time, CNN, CNBC and MSNBC.

Ashley Kinsley is a serial entrepreneur, Ashley founded Daily Deals for Moms in 2010, grew into 27 markets and sold in 2012. She spent over a decade building digital marketing strategies for multi-million dollar brands, startups and more recently, the cannabis industry. She launched Ellementa Denver Gatherings as the first lead organizer.

Lyn Bravo is the co-founder of Green Relief.  She spearheaded the company’s initiative to grow cannabis using Aquaponics, ensuring Green Relief’s environmental footprint would be minimal.  Lyn is also a Landscape Architect and has built backyard oasis’ throughout Southwestern Ontario.  

Lyn is also the host of Dead Set on Living, a lifestyle podcast that takes you off the beaten path of health and wellness and highlights unique ways to live a longer, stronger, and more fulfilling life . You’ll hear about the three years of research she and her team at Green Relief did prior to setting up shop as a licensed producer focused exclusively on the medical market. 

Lyn has a dream to feed the world through aquaponics and has a wealth of experience navigating leaderships roles in traditionally male dominated industries so its no wonder her colleagues call her the "Velvet Steamroller".

SEASON TWO Episode 9: Being A BossLady In A man's World

Growing up and living in what some would call Canada’s cannabis capital, Nelson, British Columbia, Brittny has had a lifelong interest in the cultivation and legalization of marijuana. Her interest in corporate environmental practices was reinforced while working in Canada’s oil sands with a small contractor at Suncor, the first company to develop the oil sands, which inspired her to pursue an internship on Vandana Shiva’s seed saving farm in India and an M.Sc. in Environmental Science and Policy. Brittny has led teams in product development, service procurement (multi-million-dollar service contracts), sales, and communications. Her expertise includes policy development and implementation, environmental education and scientific research. Before coming on full time with TCC she was the Environmental Technologist for the Regional District of Central Kootenay. Her professional focus includes water conservation, resource recovery, and agriculture. In 2018, Brittny was elected to be a Councilor for the City of Nelson and was appointed Alternate Director of the Regional District of Central Kootenay. Brittny is serving her second term on the Scientific Advisory Committee for the National Cannabis Industry Association.
