Miserable Today (Hooray!) feat. NotW

After long last, finally a new HMS-tune. It took a while, eh? :-) 

This one is a bit of a departure from what we normally do (whatever that may be...) in that there's no singing on it. It features, however, extracts from the short story The Border by kayemnic, read by Xe Sands. 

One day I was cruising soundcloud in search of some vocals/spoken words-samples I could use for the track and found Xe Sands. The Border immediatelly made an impression on me, not only by the way Xe read the story and her fine voice, but the narrative kind of fitted the music perfectly. I didn't want to call my track The Border, however. Because it is not the complete story and I thought it wouldn't do it justice - at last, I only used the beginning of it. I A Mystical Shimmering Veil however - now, that is a title.

Just in case you were wondering (probably you were not) what we've been up to, here's the answer: buying old records from jumble sales, 2nd hand stores and people who couldn't afford to feed their cats anymore and therefore desperately needed some cash. And we're always up for a good cause, even if that means buying old Phil Collins LPs.

HMS vs The Subwave Network: The Twilight Years

Sung by a love-crazy, money-grabbing trader with a fondness for vocoders. Our best production so far, I reckon, although that isn't something hard to achieve.:-)

Rogue Trader in Love

The music was composed on an old Roland PMA-5 I had for years. It's a rather old song but thanks to the holidays, HMS had some time to finish it somehow. It's a bit melancholic, I know... that was intended.:-)

Finally, after some years giving the guitar a go and trying to make a living as janitors, HMS are back. With a slightly melancholic and reflective track about everything that counts in a more or less unhinged world.

Everything's so surreal sometimes. Actually, most of the time. It's hard to make sense of all of this... do you sometimes feel like your mind is bending, too? This is not necessarily a bad thing. It's like seeing things again through children's eyes. And then you feel like having candy - sweet, pink und bubbly candy. Like this song.

We're Highly Motivated Staff. We work a lot - too much in fact - are underpaid, and believe in the free market. We even accept paycuts on a regular basis when it helps to, er, make someone else much richer and that, in effect, makes all of us somehow richer or something. Trickle down economics, you know. We're not always happy about this, but hey - such is life! To compensate for this and to motivate ourselves we make music. Highly motivating music. Highly motivated music, so to speak. Music you can listen to while having pointless meetings about savings, inefficiencies and new water coolers. Music while working on spreadsheets or calculating how to minimize costs and maximize profits by making other staff, far less efficient staff, redundant. Music you can listen to while making overtime without being paid and while someone else can't decide whether to listen to Michael Buble or Morbid Angel.

That's the world of the highly motivated staff. Welcome!
