Stigmates #1 - Commuter - Steuergerät

Last spring French producer Koyote dropped "Midsummer Tales", the first installment in an ambitious trilogy of original EP's for Mixpak. Now with the dawning of fall comes a batch of remixes, handpicked by Koyote himself. The "Midsummer Tales" EP is a striking collection of pychedelic body music steeped in techno tradition but focused on looking forward, it's remixes are no different.
French house supergroup Marble Players flip "Night Train" into a Bleep n' Bass monster while Altered Natives goes deep on "St Vincent Lespinasse", splitting the difference between London and Detroit. The legendary Ceephax Acid Crew takes the same track in a different direction, working out some playful but emotional cyber electro. Koyote himself turns in a VIP mix of "St Vincent Lespinasse" that strips the original down and rebuilds it with a more overt orchestral feel full of suspense and driving energy.
The explorative vibe of this release fits perfectly with Mixpak's larger vision as a label. Rather than color between the lines, weʼve been building a brand that rewards forward-thinking creativity regardless of genre. Mixpak's goal for the future is to continue uniting sounds and scenes and building something bigger than the sum of its parts. This is just one more piece of puzzle.

BRAIN HOLE 

Brain Hole is a joint project of underground acid devotees, 
Coldfuture and HighSage... and the first incarnation of the Moss Pig concept. 

Like the Blues Brothers before them, Brain Hole 
are "on a mission from God" to share live acid electronics in their true form: delivered from living machines to your ears, in the moment. 

ACID TEARS 

Recorded sometime in early 2013, this live un-edited studio session is a definitive glimpse into Brain Hole’s vision: to create live acid and broken electronics, improvised and on the fly. Acid music, performed in real-time as a shared meditation between artist and audience. 

The album consists of 2 sessions from one studio day, with zero pre-planning, and almost no conversation beforehand.

It began with HighSage’s usual invitation, "bring your TB303 and TR909 to the following location…" 

Coldfuture, shaking with emotion at the recent news that his son was born deaf, packed up his gear and met his friend HighSage for what you are about to hear. 

This is Acid Tears.

Several hundred hackers, and the power of three elektrons pumping out deep driving kicks, detroit pads, and vinyl samples for techno/house set that enveloped the whole crowd in a wash of pure techno machinery...  Broken into two parts, this is the line recording off the audio card.

Raw. Analogue Techno. Techno flavored Techno. Roland 16-step focused live jammed beats. Guitar pedals, verb tanks, gates, modular patch cables, white noise, urban samples...all mixed to a techno/house grove with attention given to subtle modulations on nearly all parts of the track.
The artistic freedom to settle in, carve out the groove, paint the aesthetic, proceed with artistic integrity and intention, and liberate the music already inside. My hope is only to connect with the people looking for honest, uncompromising art, and inspire them again to see the future as we once did in the past in early Chicago and Detroit. The world is on a temporary detour in terms of commercialized techno and laptop DJ pandemonium. Vinyl...the only phuture vision worth holding on to...the last analogy to Detroit. Computers were never the future...they were always just a 2d facsimile of it. The future was only ever captured in the raw art, the rave innocence, of the modulation of machines, sample pads, and turntables. Peace, Love, Unity and Respect...all while dancing, trusting, dreaming of the future while jacking a bass bin at 5am. It was only ever about the music moving your body.  Miles, Mills, Mayday, Atkins, Voorn, Roy Davis Jr., Principle...those are the gentlemen on my mind tonight, as the music finds its way out of the liberated machines.
