The first time I played a Contra Bass flute was a couple of years ago when I visited Odell Borg at High Spirits Flutes in Patagonia, AZ (www.highspirits.com).

At that time I was more interested in the higher pitched flutes so I didn't take a Contra Bass flute back to the Netherlands with me. Shortly after I returned I started getting a lot of comments about how the penetrating vibrations of my Condor Bass flutes were deeply affecting people during my chakra flute concerts. It was then that I realized the benefits of the deeper vibrations and I knew I needed a Contra Bass flute. I started with a Contra Bass “A” and soon after added a Contra Bass “F#”. 

Morning Meditation was recorded playing my Contra Bass “F#” in my garden. It was a warm, bright, sunny day and there were lots of birds around me singing along with my song. It was a beautiful moment.

On Dawn of a New Light, Douglas Blue Feather combines contemporary soundscapes with the ancient sound of the Native American flute. The resulting album is a celebration of joy, hope, and peace. This track, “Radiant Sun”, is a perfect example of this. 

Douglas Blue Feather is an internationally known Native American flute player of American Indian, Iberian, and European decent. He is recognized as one of the more prolific and widespread Native American flute players of today. He has released 16 albums which have been played on radio stations worldwide.

Douglas Blue Feather is a four time Native American Music Awards winner in categories including “Flutist of the Year” and “Best New Age CD”. Other highlights of Blue Feather’s career include "Best Contemporary Instrumental" at the 2012 Indian Summer Music Award, “Best Traditional Native American Flute” at the 2010 Indian Summer Music Award, and “Best New Age CD” at the Coalition of Visionary Resources Music Awards. He is also featured on the Grammy nominated CD, Faces of the Sun, by Peter Kater. Additionally, Blue Feather has received over 35 other music award nominations. 

Blue Feather has performed at the Native American Music Awards, on Fox TV, and at numerous nationally advertised powwows, festivals, expos, and churches throughout the United States.

Blue Feather describes the sound of the Native American Flute as “a heartfelt vibration that creates a powerful spiritual energy that touches everyone that hears it”. This feeling comes through in all his playing.

Silent Night

“During one of my many visits to Sedona, AZ my partner and I were hiking through a tree lined canyon next to a sweet babbling creek on the West Fork Oak Creek Trail when I stopped to play my flute. After playing for a while, an unknown sound started above us. It was getting louder and louder so we looked up and we could see the trees moving but there was no wind! We realized that the Canyon was answering the flute, singing its loving song. Canyon Call is inspired by this experience.”

In "Call From The Mountains" Vibhas Kendzia takes us to the mountains of Peru where Native Flute melodies soar through deep valleys and echo from high mountains. At first there is a call and the mountain responds, but soon the two merge to become one song, one entity.

Mother Nature embraced Naomi while she was growing-up on her family's farm. This is where she experienced, and learned to understand, the natural cycles of life that have become her everyday view of the world.

When introduced to the Native flute, she was drawn to its contemplative voice, which so easily expresses her love of nature.

Naomi’s heartfelt connection to the trees, flowers, animals, and all of creation are represented in the songs she has created for this project.

I was given the High Spirits Condor Bass D flute by a sort of a "shaman" person in exchange for a percussion instrument. I played several different wind instruments before, but I was hooked by a special sonority and simplicity of Native American Flutes immediately upon getting the instrument. I started exploring the world of Native American music and was especially fond of the pure expression of solo flute improvisations, which I think are the most powerful use of the instruments. 

At one point I felt "initiated" into the flute and had an urge to record a very pure and simple album to express tranquillity, serenity, peace and calm solitude that could transport the listeners into a sort of trance; or on the other hand, induce attentive focus that is undisturbed by a racing mind and the "human drama". 

"Dreaming by the Cave Fire" is one of the three songs on the album I recorded with the High Spirits flute, and my vision for it was sitting by the fire in my rock shelter, covered by warm blankets, feeling cozy and safe, while observing the flames.
