Beneath an emerald sky, the last vestiges of human civilization clung to meager life amidst the pockmarked ruins of their former home. Their humble enclosure, only measuring one kilometer in diameter, had begun its term initially as an experimental society built on small-scale self-sufficiency. Enclosed within had been some 40-odd volunteers who had permanently forsaken their lives beyond the dome, leaving behind the world they had known for the promise of utopia anew.

That had been countless solar cycles ago, a period of time that had seen the inhabitants of the dome watch the slow downfall of the civilization they had left behind through the dome’s veridian glass. Climactic shifts, wars for resources, the erosion of the atmosphere- all had passed them by within their impenetrable fortress. Instead, the dome’s inhabitants, led by a keen understanding of their environment’s carrying capacity, had quashed any similar internal conflicts with the creation of a draconian legal code that governed every aspect of their lives, a monotonous existence of daily rations, forced labor, and mandated deaths. Yet still each citizen of the dome looked to the outside and wished to be nowhere else, for there amidst the endless sands such a spartan existence was all that remained to be lived for their ilk.

XYLYM makes his full EATBRAIN debut with DOOMSDAY, a four-track EP that sees the producer emerge from the ranks of the label’s DIVERGENCE compilation series to stand alone before the horde alongside collaborators Scalez & Zeph Miles as he leads the label’s faithful through the furious sonics of DOOMSDAY.

The laboratory had been lost within the haze that had enveloped the nation’s fall, abandoned by the scientists who had conducted their abhorrent experiments upon the abductees they had plucked from those forgotten throughout its decades of slow collapse. Some of those most scrupulous amongst them had simply terminated their tests before their flight, but many still yet languished in the agonies of their ongoing torment, their pleas silenced by the bounds of the facility that held them. As the weeks progressed, many of these unfortunates fell silent as the unrestrained experimental environments that housed them took their ultimate toll, and in the months that followed the facility’s population dwindled into nothingness - all save for two revenant souls trapped within its very core.

Borne of the most horrific trials that the facility had wrought, these twin survivors had clung to life by pure strength of will alone. There, in the complete darkness of their shared isolation, their bodies were rendered unrecognizable and their identities were stripped by all that they had endured. It was the first gentle murmur of a breeze that had awoken them from their years-long torment, a sensation that stirred within them the faintest memory of what once had been. Upon this single lasting memory, the pair swore vengeance upon not only those who had perpetrated their suffering but the whole form of life that had enabled it, and set out from the depths of the laboratory with a single aim, They stood now to return what to them had been given, to unleash unimaginable horror AGAINST HUMANITY as a whole. 

Those of the EATBRAIN horde who seek the thrill of fear should heed the call of AGAINST HUMANITY, who emerge to make their debut on the label with IN THE DARK, the first release from the masked duo that weaves a penchant for cinematic sound design within the Neurofunk rhythms that drive the EP’s four tracks in a fearsome fusion of theme and talent.

The fires of the NEUROPUNK FORGE alight once more with the arrival of the WARHEAD EP, the latest release from rising Russian duo DESPERSION on NEUROPUNK RECORDS. Established in 2017, the duo have seen previous releases on a variety of labels including Ignescent, 0101 and Kill Tomorrow, within which they have displayed their development of a style that blends complex melodic motifs with aggressive percussive and bassline sequences for a synthesis formed of these two often disparate sounds. Now making their NEUROPUNK RECORDS debut, DESPERSION deliver four tracks in this signature style to create the latest set of auditory weapons straight from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.

Opened by the minor chords and arpeggios of the title track of the same name, the WARHEAD EP quickly erupts with low end weight leavened by the interspersion of melodic reprisals of its opening theme. The deceptively named PEACE which follows provides a slice of scathing neurofunk marked by the tonalities of the distorted hornlike synth that blasts above its rapidly moving bassline. OFFENSIVE next delivers an explosive barrage of transient percussive impacts that fall with perfectly planned precision amongst the tracks chaotic upper atmosphere. Closing the EP is I NEED YOU NOW, which departs from the hard charging energy of its predecessors to deliver a flowing vocal cut emblematic of DESPERSION’s melodic abilities.

With the WARHEAD EP, DESPERSION deliver a dynamic debut on NEUROPUNK RECORDS, showing a deft ability to craft beautiful melodic sequences and works of utmost sonic aggression in equal measure, marking themselves as a duo to watch as they emerge from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.
