Helsinki may not be the hotspot for up-and-coming producers yet, but Misha is about to change this. The half Finnish, half Ukrainian beatmaker is leading the new wave of Scandinavian producers. After a couple of releases via Chillhop Misha follows up with his first solo EP on Melting Pot Music. It is called “Midnight Sun”.

“Midnight Sun” is dedicated to Finnish summers full of serenity. In midsummer Helsinki has no real night time. During this natural phenomenon the sun never sinks beyond the horizon for a certain period of time. In the Northern parts of Finland, it lasts over 2 months. Locals receive it with an incredulous joy after realizing that they've survived another long and cold winter with no sunlight. This midsummer madness is the backdrop for Misha’s very own ode to idle
summer days and mellow city nights, when all worries are postponed till the next winter. We recommend listening to “Midnight Sun” after visiting a sauna with a bottle of beer, some herb and a bunch of friends. The perfect soundtrack for a laidback evening.

The EP oscillates between dreamy slow-jams and up-tempo rhythms. R&B cuts are followed by mesmerizing 80s-funk-homages and Misha manages to center all of his songs around his eclectic trade-mark groove somewhere between head nod and dance-off. Misha is never afraid to push himself out of his creative comfort-zone. On “Midnight Sun” he got help and inspiration from multiple artists. Aspiring vocalists like Jesse Markin or Ashley DuBose, as well as fellow
beatmakers like Monma or cocabona.

On this release Misha even got the chance to work with Finnish boogie legend Jussi Halme, who laid down some cold keyboard routines on three of six tracks. The two musicians initially
linked up after Misha had commented a YouTube video of Jussi Halme’s song “Early Evening in Brazil”. When Jussi personally replied, they did not only become friends, but they also produced a new version of the track. On “Midnight Sun” Misha and Jussi remade Jussi’s disco cut “Funny Funk” and turned it into a full-blown jam.

Enhasa is veteran producer Zack Mitchell's sophomore album under his Blackbird Belle alias, and it methodically paints a portrait of a musician obsessed with tonality and detail. From the crackling static and saturated analog warmth of the titular opening track, all the way through to the final moments of the soulful, triumphantly receding closer, Enhasa is permeated with lushly imagined sounds and rich, evocative timbres.

The title of the record is lifted from a mythical kingdom, built many millennia ago amidst a series of monolithic, floating mountains, all chained together and anchored to the sky during a golden age of wonder. As a record, Enhasa lives up to its namesake. The album is imbued with that very same magic, juxtaposing a mystical sense of air, space, and melodic resonance within each beat with the weight and impact of near-liquid percussion and a diverse array of punctuated grooves.

Put simply, Enhasa is an album tailored for the headphone cosmonauts and the deep divers - eight beats that are all at once inviting and enveloping, that gradually unfurl and reveal new layers with each dedicated listen.
