Big Crown is proud to present the second 45 from the darling dears of Rialto, CA, Brainstory. We dropped their debut single on the label back in March and it instantly caught on with all the sweet soul fans. This new 7” showcases the funkier, jazzier but equally soulful side of Brainstory. Their debut album “Buck”, produced entirely by Leon Michels is due out in October of 2019.The A side, “Breathe”, takes a page out of the Shuggie Otis playbook and then flips the script with some stoned out, west coast swag. In the words of Kevin, Brainstory’s lead chanteur, “Breathe is a song about letting go of the emotional baggage of our lives in order to become who we truly are. Before this new journey can happen we got to stop back and take a breath. Relax. Use the power of this simple act to become your higher self.”Side B, “Sorry” keeps on with the same swagger as Breathe but finds brother and bass player extraordinaire, Tony, taking over the vocal duties. In his words, “Sorry is an expression of the truth in a relationship that has ran its course. Nobody wants to say it but eventually this truth prevails and becomes undeniable”.

A Quest Called Tribe begins with the series of portraits drawn by Stéphane Carricondo in 2017 dedicated to Hip Hop legends.
As close partner in art Medline proposed to create a soundtrack for them, and first interpreting ATCQ's classics with elements of the past, present and future.

The best way to materialize this multidimensional tribute was obviously a vinyl. And it's the one we unveil today.

On the visual side:
ATCQ's portraits are composing the front cover and, assembled into a great scene, are printed on a colorful A2 poster. Stéphane Carricondo's natural lines are highlighting each member's soul map. The alchemy of the dark ink on emptiness gives to them an impressive sparkle of life .

On the musical side:
The classic themes are transformed into a polymorphic fusion, were jazz, funk and soul from the original sample sources converse with Tribe's characteristic beats. Medline added a hint of his magic, unique rhythms, improvisations, arrangements, original orchestration and inspired melodies.

The album is an ode to the band that marked both artist's life and mind. A cultural print and school of sound that designed Hip Hop foundations. With a blooming expression Medline and Stéphane Carricondo are going to the roots of ATCQ in a quest for the tribe.

Youngbloods presents a new series by @Reginald-Chapman's PRESSURE FIT project featuring a series of jazz covers recorded with the trombonists friends & collaborators over the internet while quarantined. 

"2020 Has not been kind to the live entertainment industry, one of the communities that has had to go 100% digital with the advent of Covid-19. For many, live shows was more than just entertainment, it was lifeline, a way for musicians to work out things of the heart in a common place with other artists. This has been replaced with distanced collaborations. Somehow one can sense the need want and comfort of belonging between the musicians in the Brady Bunch style video panels that are now so prevalent. This project, starting with "Sticky" is a documentation of a place holder lifeline until we can once again spend time in the same room, bathing in the healing presence of creative togetherness. Oh what a day that will be. "
