co-founder of hyperglitch pioneers @glitch-dot-cool | @soup_lab is a producer based in Detroit. soup’s work has been coterminous with the development of hyperglitch, over a pair of EPs, live sets, and a number of singles and remixes, continually delineating and redrawing the possibilities of the genre. Across upwards of a decade of production, soup’s music has been persistently cutting-edge and persistent in its articulation of a sublimity readily available when computational tools become simultaneous with the shattered mouthing of experience.

One of the most beautiful things about soup’s Realist mix is its demarcation of hyperglitch as a glisteringly intertextual music. With glitch as a basis - and its tenets of emotive centrality and crystallisation via the systemic glitch - flickerings of all else become tinged with poetic importance. Touches of dubstep, future garage, caged tones reminiscent of French house. When glitch occurs it intimates alterity, some secretive crackling in perceived perfectibility. The fissure shoulders a humanity when it enters into cooperation with expression. The expression does not enter our world only as disruption, but a reformulation of the significance of what is broken apart and what is after broken. So when these other musics flicker, they do so not with nostalgia nor a parodic wink, but as composites of an overarching articulation of selfhood within the disrupt.

Many of these writings seem weekly to refer to potentialities, half-stoppered yet unstoppered voices - dubieties of hauntology and its unimaginative ahistoricity. soup’s mix is immediate. It does not disguise its urgency. Where it reappropriates, it colours with an exigency of feeling. It is heavenly straightaway and that itself is an adjuration to the radicality of beauty in the breakability of the at-hand.
