Conceived in the literal underground of the INDEX:Records basement studio in Berlin, the enigmatic, new-coming “pop” group Downstairs People, is an unlikely collaborative project to be birthed from 2020 – the year of isolation. 'Underground Pop' is a collection of aural serotonin hits that touch the feel good receptors, genre hopping between synth-pop, house and neo-RnB.
The group is conducted and glued together by INDEX:Record's own, Jorge Camacho, the maestro behind his alias, vase. Camacho brings together a gauntlet of Berlin-based artists and INDEX: affiliates, dishing out something fresh after countless late night sessions, only to curate a serendipitously coherent record of left-field pop hits, that arrive just in time for summer. ‘Underground Pop’ by Downstairs People is out 16 April 2021 via single disk 12” LP vinyl, with full album artwork outer-sleeve and black inner-sleeve. A run of 250 copies are distributed worldwide by Rubadub and available to purchase on INDEX:Records' Bandcamp (where a limited amount are offered with a rare edition Downstairs People Zine, designed by Amos Turner).

Pipe Dreams was written for the organ in St. Peter’s Köln, which has two sets of pipes at opposite ends of the church. Each rank has separate sounds and stops that can combine to create microtonal intervals. Pipe Dreams is a structured improvisation, exploring antiphony and the specific sounds of that organ, extra-musical as well as musical. The tempos and exact notation are left open; the notation is just a musical skeleton for the actual notes played. Ornamentation occurs when the sound warrants it: i.e., to not only obtain musical results, but to make extra-musical sounds occur. The weather affected the sound and action of this organ, changing every day, so realization changed daily. Pipe Dreams

Milian Mori is a composer and digital artist based in Switzerland. As part of his solo work he integrates dance, algorithms, pixels, and club music. In the last 12 years mori has developed a musical language that aims to expand, project and reinterpret dance music's common vocabulary.
Mori shares his deep interest in combining mathematics, geometry and data with emotion, dance and fulfillment: Technology meets nature, binary meets fluids, algorithm meets spirituality, dualism meets triality, machine meets human, randomness meets self similarity. All of his works are trying to open the space which exceeds dualism. His art doesn’t want to answer, nor does it aim to question.
His debut album »as you were listening«, released via raster, captures the spirit of his previous works as well as establishes a new vision in which he endeavours to fuse pop culture with the art world. In »As you were listening« he’s using the distinct language of dub techno whilst attempting to expand the genre’s vocabulary with new changes, elements and aesthetics.
Mori has been involved in numerous collaborations and a wide array of arts projects, as well as working as a composer, DIY installation artist, sound designer, recording and sound engineer.

This double A-sider is the fruit of a long gestating collaboration with fellow Malmö-based record collector/selector & producer Simon alias Rizzolo DJ (alias Moisture). Closely intertwined with the label in various ways since the start, his path to producing started with re-edits and a more wild-haired approach to deejaying, finally landing into his own groove with the 2018 album A Freak Is Born. Released as a privately pressed cassette, the album featured two tracks co-produced with Fasaan founder Prins Emanuel. 

On that first album, the palette was a lo-fi reverie of minimal waves crashing into depths of goth and heights of camp. Here for the 12” format, we instead get the full onslaught of power tools gleaming in the blast of strobe lights. The weight of GAMMUT unfolds and delivers exactly what the title suggests: a complete scope of percussive barrage unleashed in tight locked grooves and smattering reverberations. In addition to that, we are treated with a spine-tingling re-imagining of the concept of a bass drop. 

For ORGONE, a 1984 track by Norwegian group Fra Lippo Lippi serves as the backbone of the composition. Championed by cosmic DJ Daniele Baldelli and here pitched down to wrongspeeder tempo, Moisture uses the original song to bridge the gap between his roots in the re-edit scene as well as in the cosmic tradition. Thedry  mechanical bassline is flanked by hollow percussion that eventually propels into a crystal-chimmering microcosm of orgone energy.

"Leave No Trace"... a mantra borrowed from the more purist and hardcore camping ethicists. The general idea behind it being that you must minimize all environmental impact whenever you engage with the natural world as a means of responsibility. 
Around the time of this mix I was fascinated by Lee Lozano’s Dropout Piece and Seth Price’s How To Disappear In America — wondering what would it feel like to voluntarily drop out completely, to really leave no trace? Especially, what would our beloved planet look like? 
Musically, what I wanted to illustrate with this mix were two sides of an untouched and unpopulated planet. The eternal, chaotic hum of the natural world, the glow of an empty city left on overnight....Honk if you don't exist."
