Hello World,

This is Dreamscape Chapter Three: "Spectral Plains". Just like all other chapters of Dreamscape all sounds used in this project are created using Cherry Audio's Voltage Modular only. The composition and mixing has been done using FL Studio.

Some facts and figures of Dreamscape Chapter Three:

- total playtime: 18:05 (approx.)
- total time spend on the composition and mixing (FL Studio time only): 23 hours and 52 minutes

All sounds are made by various artists around the globe. The artists that contributed for chapter three are: MLC Vanamsterdam, Radu Sover, Hans Holema, Sada Exposada, Jim Dunn, Luc van de Sande and Sam Nelson.

The guidelines for chapter three were: Theme: "Spectral Plains", BPM: 98, Scale: C Dorian SCALE (C = Root | C D D# F G A A#) and Genre: No-limitations.

Chapter three is split in two parts, of which the end of part two is a bit more experimental then part one. Nice detail is that when I first started this project, I envisioned it all as an experimental art piece just like the end of part two. In hindsight I am very pleased and proud to see how this project developed over time. The wide variety in musical genres that come together is just amazing.

My goal is to reach an hour of music. At the moment we are at around 45 minutes. So, I expect Chapter 4 might be... the final chapter?

Frog croaks at midnight

Homo Machina is the first work composed as part of the suite Der Industriepalast. The piece is deeply influenced by the work of infographic pioneer, Fritz Kahn (1888-1968). Kahn’s most pivotal work was the life-sized poster “Der Mensch als Industriepalast” (Man as Industrial Palace) of 1926, which this piece is based upon.  Such is the inspiration of his work, it has influenced children’s anatomy books, comics (e.g. Numskullz) and even movies (e.g. Fantastic Voyage).

The visual crossover between industrialization and science in Fritz Kahn's artwork demonstrates the means by which human nature became culturally encoded by placing the knowledge of the human anatomy within the context of the modern, industrial world. Kahn produced lots of illustrations that drew a direct functional analogy between human physiology and the operation of modern technologies of the times. Therefore, by illustrating the body as a factory, Kahn was able to relate the body’s complex organic interior to the industrialized space so common in society during  the 1920’s.

As the work is intended as an introduction to a far longer suite, it is intended to provide an overview to the sounds that Kahn may have imagined as he was creating his remarkable graphics. It is therefore structured into 6 sections.

Hiroki Sasajima is the sound artist residents in Tokyo. He had started the activity of field recording around 2007. Since then, he goes to record various places in Japan actively and releases many works from labels in all over the world. For his live performances, he places field recording sound and the sound of objects in the space to give a chance to rethink about “how to listen or capture the sound” for audiences. He is interested in the beauty of the detailed and missing sound, and searches for the essence and the possibility of the sound with focussing to the characteristics of time, space and regional cultures. He weaves a seamless fabric of vibration with the pure innate vision of sound.
