1992 – 2016

猪浦直樹監督の作品に音楽を当てるのは2回目、
前回は『世にも奇妙な物語』「マジシャンのポケット（監督 下山天）」という作品、1992年の事です。
駆け出しの脚本家と、同じく駆け出しの（本当に！）作曲家という「まだ何者でもないふたり」でした。

22年後、2014年の晩秋、
「新しい作品の制作に入るので音楽をやりませんか」というメールが届きました。
送られてきた企画書の1行目は「原発事故以降」という書き出しで始まります。
「ああ、ただ手放しに優しい話にはしたくないのだな」
監督が昔話の意匠を借りて描こうとしている何かに、
音楽はどう関われば良いのでしょうか。

・「小さな村（社会）」（それは新潟の雪深い山ではあるけれど、同時に例えば東欧の森でもあり、アフリカの海辺であってもいいでしょう）
の背景/外にある「世界」の存在を暗示すること。

・少年は「世界」の代理人であり、恩寵の扉でもあること。

この2点を物語の背骨として作曲を進めました。

明るく柔らかい表層の、だからこそ僅かな隙間から「こちら側」に伸びる暗い影をほの見えさせる事は出来るのか、
映像とストーリーが音楽に望んでくるものに、誠実に向き合ったつもりです。

「私たちの生きている現実は、もはや田吾作少年がいた世界と地続きではなくなった、だから恩寵も訪れない。さて、どうすればいい？」

エンドロールの後、あぶりだしの様に浮かび上がるこの問いかけが、猪浦監督が2016年にこの作品を完成させる理由ではないでしょうか。


Music commentary by the composer of 'Tagosaku-dpn No iru Mura'

1992 – 2016

This is the second time I have applied music to a film directed by Naoki Inoura,
The last time was in 1992, in a work called "Magician's Pocket” (dir. Ten Shimoyama)  from ‘Tales of the Bizarre’.
At the time, we were "two young people who had not yet become anything," a fledgling screenwriter and a composer.

22 years later, in the late fall of 2014,
Suddenly, I received an email from Inoura asking me to create a soundtrack for a new film he was about to shoot.
The first line of the attached proposal begins with the words "Since the nuclear accident”.
Reading that, I understood that "Inoura does not want to make this film a gentle story just to give it away.
I pondered, "How should music be involved in this film, which is trying to depict something by borrowing the design of a folk tale?”

1. in depicting a small village “Society" (it may be a snowy mountain in Niigata, but at the same time it may be a forest in Eastern Europe or a seaside in Africa, for example), to imply the existence of a “World" in its "background / outside".
2. Tagosaku is the voice of the "World" and at the same time, he can be the Door of Grace.
I proceeded with composition so that the above two points could be implied from the music.

The surface of the story is bright and soft, but is it possible to reveal the "dark shadows" that seep out from the slightest cracks in the story?
I tried to be sincere in what the images and the story wanted for the music.

After the end roll, there is a "question" that emerges in our minds like a mirage.
That "question" is the reason why Inoura completed this work in 2016.

“The reality in which we live is no longer connected to the world in which the boy Tagosaku lived, and so grace is no longer available to us. Now what do we do?"
