Jakob Häglsperger AKA Kalipo is a busy man. Operating as one third of German electro-punk band Frittenbude, his solo alias was brought to life in 2014 with debut album “Yaruto”, released on experimental label Antime Records.

The multi-faceted producer now returns to Audiolith with the “Wanderer EP”, after having released the gorgeous “Mäusemarsch” this summer on the label’s electronic-focused Stiff Little Spinners compilation series.

“Wanderer “is a restless record which sees Kalipo work his way through the deeper ends of four to the flour with a refreshingly experimentalist approach to production, with defamiliarized samples and analogue gear running the show.

The music has changed since the Berliner’s debut album, becoming more propulsive, more physical and geared towards the dancefloor. Composed mostly on tour or over extended periods of travelling, the track names on “Wanderer” each come with their particular story, referencing places Kalipo has previously played or traveled to.

Monolithic opener “Donau Sunrise” sets the tone straight from the start with sanguine arpeggiators that work their way across a mystical backdrop. Melancholic themes infiltrate the cracks of the album and stand out tracks “Banana Garden”, written when Kalipo was stuck in a bamboo hut in the middle of thai jungle with a 40 degree fever and nothing else but headphones, a sampler and penicillin for company, and the stunning “Institute Of Cotton Wool” are set to become earworms of the highest order.

“Wanderer” sees Kalipo right in his element. Tension builds and dissolves gracefully throughout and the Berliner’s audacious approach to production give his music an authentic and very recognizable feel, one which is clearly Berlin-influenced but which also evades the set templates.

The swirling green patterns of the northern lights in the darkness of the polar night are a perfectly natural phenomenon. At the same time they are an extremely surreal and mind-blowing experience. That’s a pretty good description for the Green Lake Project, as well, which adds hypnotic, technoish vibrations to the sound spectrum of the 3000° artist collective. The Green Sky EP is as organic and full of hidden wonders as the secluded forests and lakes that are the most important source of inspiration for Green Lake Project. On the other hand, the energetic groove of the two tracks Stardust and Suburban is just as high-tech and futuristic as the machines on which they have been produced.

Seth Schwarz teamed up with his funky fellow Be Svendsen, and together they created something that has the same UV index and the same amount of fresh air as a festival with perfect climatic conditions: During its epic 10 minutes of play time, their highly melodic track “Elves of Karoo” grows just as big and exciting as a full weekend on a dancefloor bathed in a generous amount of direct sunlight. Furthermore, Seth Schwarz adds the solo track “Quando Rando” that is slower but just as compelling and that reflects the classical composition skills of this producer in an intriguingly subliminal way. The amount of great producers who contribute remixes for this EP lives up to the idea of a perfect festival, as well – a festival for lovers of catchy yet sophisticated dance music, that is.

Seth Schwarz und Be Svendsen haben gemeinsam etwas geschaffen, dessen UV-Index und Frischluftgehalt einem Festival mit Bilderbuch-Bedingungen entspricht: Ihr hochgradig melodiöser Track “Elves of Karoo” ist in seinen epischen 10 Minuten Spielzeit mindestens genauso groß und ereignisreich wie ein Wochenende auf einer Tanzfläche unter freiem Himmel. Im Alleingang legt Seth Schwarz außerdem den etwas langsameren, aber genauso zugkräftigen Titel “Quando Rando” nach, in dem er seine klassischen Kompositionskünste mit zurückhaltender Eleganz einsetzt. Die Menge der hochkarätigen Künstler, welche für die Remixes an Bord geholt wurden, entspricht übrigens ebenfalls dem Bild eines Festivals mit Bilderbuch-Bedingungen für Freunde eingängiger und doch anspruchsvoller Tanzmusik.

Number seventeen on San Francisco’s Manjumasi showcases the stylings of Italian musician and producer Davide Ferrario. Drawing on a background in both composition and live performance, Davide’s two-track offering is richly musical, showcasing his melodic sensibilities as well as a talent for crafting deep grooves. The lead track “Model” kicks off with a powerful kick and a thick, punctuated bassline. From there the track builds an increasingly complex harmony of layers up into a forceful crescendo of rich, detuned-oscillator synth stabs, with a tone that is both dark but optimistic. The track is well-complemented by “Jewel Ice,” which shows Davide’s softer side in a beautiful sonic tapestry of pretty piano lines, supported throughout by ethereal string pads and sparkling synth details.

First up on remix duties is SF producer and Manjumasi alumnus Bengal, who takes the ingredients of Model and re-works them into a softer, more lush groove. Hypnotic, looping melodic layers carry the groove steadily and gently forwards, with Bengal’s unique and sophisticated percussion style seasoning the mix with artistic detail. Rounding out the package, Toronto DJ/producer and co-founder of No. 19 records turns in a deep, dubby late-night take on Jewel Ice. Stripping the track down to its core elements, Nitin hones in on the seductive piano lines, re-situating them at the very center of a mysterious and haunting afterhours groove.

Circles & Stones release their debut EP „Various Gems I" with four various artists who, at first glance, hail from varying corners of the music spectrum.

The EP opens with "Cloud 9", an ode to summer by Thomas Atzmann. Born in the morning at a time when the world is just waking up and creativity flows freely, its joyful tune and catchy breakbeat set the tone for an uplifting kind of melancholia, tugging at your heartstrings all the while. "Kabale & Liebe", in which O/Y interprets Robosonic's original version with his own recipe for organic grunginess, combines euphoric synth lines with organic percussions and haunting vocals, finally releasing the tension that builds gradually within the track's own story.

Side B begins with Arutani's slow burner "Back in Time", a track that conveys a flavour of darkness that's never heavy and always intriguing. The groove is easy, almost playing with a lightness that permeates the whole track, all the while alternating with a bassline that gives a contrasting twang and reminds us of his individual, pervasive sound. And last but not least, Midas 104 delivers a multi-layered, textured production for a perfect close called "Quixotopia". The melody cascades into waves of throbbing synthesisers, complex percussive patterns and static sounds that are characteristic of his style, and gives weight to an otherwise floating track."
