As the first katharsis release of 2022, we present you the debut EP “Distance” by  Rome-based artist chantssss. This release frames a deep introspection for the listener by exhibiting a granular sound collage based mainly on aquatic sounds but also on solid objects broken up to tiny pieces until they transform into a liquid semi-percussive state. 

Throughout the four tracks of the EP, we are enveloped by a transforming layer of fluid noise, that momentarily resembles the slithering of a snake, which is also graphicly represented by the artist alias. This is no coincidence, as the artist is connected to this theme by their experience of being bitten by a viper while capturing aquatic field recordings in the mountains.

On “Distance”, chantssss premieres his artistic expression by employing intertwining multi-sensory atmospheres of nature combined with generative synthesis and field recordings. The single “Your Next Online Healing” will be premiered on the 3rd of February, a week before the full EP releases on February 10th.

The committee “Justice pour Sourour” and the Pacifique Records music platform is launching a series of compilations to raise awareness on the fight against police violence and collect funds to ensure justice for Sourour: beloved sister, mother, daughter, and friend, who died in a police station in Brussels on January 12, 2023. For this first volume we’re bringing together friends and allies: artists of the experimental and bass music scene, each presenting a track.   The fight we’re waging is relentless, we need to keep everyone’s attention so that the struggle doesn’t lose momentum, so that even more people feel concerned and join us, and so that similar violence can never happen again. We want to believe in a united, supportive and politicised music scene. As artists, musicians and cultural actors, and with your support, we can play a precious role in this fight.
