This was a world in which money reigned supreme. One might be able to exchange and buy to the hearts content – for what else was there but for the very status of fancy goods and material things? This was planet market – a world in which life came second to the idea of purchase.

The clouds were thick and moody overhead, reminiscent of the sentiment and world which existed down below. Sellers shouted, hustlers moved fast and those out for a quick steal had to be speedy in the midst of the chaos. There were no rules on planet market – it was simply a battle to the top by any means necessary.

What was the price?

NIQH takes us on a futuristic trip. This latest record on Plasma Sources draws upon influence from science fiction and features a style of world building and ambient construction which is intriguing and highly listenable.

Rising UK poet and lyricist Older Brother joins forces with multi-hyphenate artist and producer Cameron Morse for new track ‘The Sedated Century’, due 26th Jan on Society Soundtrack. 

 

Older Brother is an artist translating our daily dystopia into sonic painkillers. Winning fans from all corners from the off, his track with frequent collaborator Metrist 'Bullet Time’ (Timedance) was heralded by The Quietus as 'an excellent slow-burn mystical journey in the mould of Joy Orbison', while follow up ‘Tele Hill Climbers’ was playlisted by Apple, BBC6 and NTS

 

On ‘The Sedated Century’ Older Brother links up with Montreal based fashion visionary, experimental musician and LUCKYME collaborator, Cameron Morse. Like a beguiling sonic Black Mirror, the track signals the dawn of society's drunken disconnection from our bodies into gaseous avatars. Older Brother delivers razor-like British melancholia with Lustwerk laid back-ness over the missing dance track from LAGEOS. 

 

The perfect cautionary tale for January gloom and resolution wake up call, ‘The Sedated Century’ arrives on Older Brother’s excellent Society Soundtrack - a label releasing moving music that critically reflects our world in danceable forms. ‘The Sedated Century’ is the final single in a trilogy following ‘Cliff’ and ‘Tele Hill Climbers’, and alongside a slated EP release with Manchester band Shell Company (FIXED ABODE), heads up what’s set to be an exciting 2024 for the rising artist.

“I met Cameron Morse on Soundcloud way back in 2015 around the time he was making the first Littlebabyangel record. His music has always sounded like how I’ve felt, under another alias I used to rip all his demos and do whole live improvised sets to his music.

 

The Sedated Century is our first track, it’s about how we’re voluntarily sedating ourselves en masse. It’s a cautionary tale - about the neglect and dehumanisation of digitisation. The track is an antidote, it gets you high then puts an adrenaline shot in your chest”.

Four Four Premiere: Older Brother - The Sedated Century Ft. Cameron Morse

Accidental melodies and textural forms comprise Kin Teal’s Ecosystem, the Budapest-based producer’s second EP of iridescent club-not-club zones and debut for Human Pitch. Bridging 130-140 leftfield bass with liquid downtempo chuggers, Kin Teal uncovers hidden melodies in the resonant frequencies of percussion. “By amplifying certain frequencies in drum breaks, our brains latch onto that as a melody. These melodies are often askew, not perfectly tuned, and I wanted to embrace that.”

Doubling down on the record’s title and theme, Kin Teal played with the idea of a record in which each sound and track reacts to one another. Tubular melodies coil around syncopated drums as though by reflex and vocal blips flit through the gaps. There’s a clockwork but also a fluidity to Kin Teal’s oblique rhythms, which trace the producer’s growth, bending blueprints with a vibrant curiosity.
